Chapter One

"So Eric, I'll be expecting you at 9 o'clock at the Track, yeah?" Collin asked me for the third time since I had parked my white Ferrari 458 Italia.

"Hell yeah. There is no way I'm losing to that Bradley jerk. Kid thinks he can beat me," I bragged, lazily smiling at the groupies behind him. I winced as I felt a sharp jab at my side. Of course it would be my best friend giving me a pointed glare that practically screamed 'shut the hell up or you'll be making as ass out of yourself if you end up losing.' I knew her well enough to know that is exactly what she was trying to tell me. So, just to piss her off, I threw her an innocent smile before ruffling her hair and walked toward the entrance of Millard High School with my gang by my side.

"No te creas, menso," Lani scolded me.

"Bro, you better rip him a new one for being such a pompous ass," Jeremy said excitedly.

"Wow, look who's actually paying attention to Lani's weekly vocabulary lessons," Cameron mocked.

"At least we know who will be passing English this semester, verdad que si Cam?" Lani taunted as she bumped her shoulder against Cameron. I laughed at their banter while Cameron grimaced. Let's just say his English grade would make any first year, non-English speaker cringe. Yeah, it was that bad.

"Anyways, back to my race," I interrupted before they could start an argument, "We already looked at his statistics and studied all his weaknesses so I should be more than fine. I can't wait to stomp all over him."

The first bell rang as I stopped by my locker. Lucky for us, our lockers were right next to each other in a row. I got my material ready for AP Chemistry, Lani got her textbook for AP History, Jeremy got his book for AP English, and Cameron got his notepad ready for AP Art. I turned to Lani; ready to ask her the same question I had asked her since kindergarten started.

"Are you ready to face the idiots in your class today?" I questioned her in all seriousness.

She stared at me for a few moments before answering with, "Just make sure you have your trunk cleared for a few dead bodies to fit." She then proceeded to slam her locker door shut and walk away, waving her hand up in the air with her back turned to us.

"Man, she sure is a keeper," Cameron muttered while Jeremy and I chuckled. I slapped each of their backs before making my way to AP Chem as the second bell rang. Hopefully, we work on worksheets all period long so I can catch up on my sleep. Yesterday's race had surprisingly taken its toll on me. Brian Verdini, my competitor from last night, had made it obvious he would not go down without a fight. He promised to race me again, and soon. It was my pleasure to continue beating his ass until I left him a crying mess.

The last bell rang as I stepped through the doors of Mrs. Fletcher's class.

"You're late Mr. Ramirez," my lovely teacher stated like I didn't hear the bell ring with my own two ears. Gosh, I needed to stop hanging out with Lani so much.

"I apologize Mrs. Fletcher," I smiled charmingly and slightly bowed down. The class laughed while she rolled her eyes and gestured to my seat in the back. That was my cue that she was not going to mark me tardy. I couldn't afford another strike. Detention meant that Lani would take my spot as driver of my baby, and that was a definite no-no.

I sat down, not paying attention to Mrs. Fletcher take attendance, and started talking to the girl beside me.

"Oh, I almost forgot to announce that we have two new students. Please raise your hands so everyone can see whom I'm talking about. Make them feel welcome to our school, students," she commanded. Two students in front of me raised their hands. I couldn't make out their faces but I could see the girl's blond hair and the boy's dark brown hair.
