LET'S PRETEND LIKE THE WHOLE DESPAIR THING DIDN'T HAPPEN, JUNKO GOT DROPPED ON THE HEAD AS A BABY AND DIED (jk but she just doesn't exist in this au let my boi be happy).
It was early in the morning.
You and Kazuichi sat down on the airport waiting seats.
Both 18 at the time and already tired of the long journey ahead. About 13 hours straight in a plane from Japan to America. More specifically, Ohio. It was summer break so you decided to invite Gundham and Kazuichi on a trip to your home town. You were originally American, then you moved to Japan to go to Hope's Peak Academy.
Unfortunately, Gundham had to decline the offer because he feared it won't be good for the Four Dark Devas of Destruction. As sad as it was for you, Kazuichi was actually glad he got some time alone with you.
Like, 2 weeks alone with you. In your house. With only your mother and younger brother being the only things that could interrupt you both. Not like he had plans or anything. He simply enjoyed the thought of relaxing with you always nearby.
"We have 15 minutes before we have to go to the check-in..." You sighed. While you spent 13 hours in a plane before, it was a dreaded trip. Although, you too, were looking forwards to spending some time with Kazuichi.
"Man, we're lucky that our seats were assigned together..." Said Kazuichi. "Yeah." You replied. "But hey, I managed to persuade my mum to buy us premium economy seats!" You smiled at the mechanic.
"I've never actually been on a plane before, so I'm sorta scared y'know?"
He said, grabbing his beanie with both of his hands and stretching. Probably to try and look manly.
"Should I hold your hand when we're lifting off and landing?" You joked. Then you laughed gently. "O-of course not! I'm a man!" He argued.
His bright pink braid jumped up and down as he spoke.
"Yeah, yeah. I know." You kept giggling.
You waited in the seats for 10 more minutes before deciding to start walking to the check-in station.
Both of your heavier suitcases were already in the plane, now you just had to give the tickets to the attendant. You were carrying the backpack with the food in and Kazuichi had the small bag with all the other needed stuff. Mainly your electronics.
After the check-in you were both sat on the comfortable seats of the Premium Economy class. You instantly put your belts on and got ready for the plane to start. Well, you were ready, Kazuichi wasn't. You could see him shaking and clenching his teeth.
"You sure you're OK?" You asked him out of caution, turning to him.
"Y-yeah man. I'm cool."
For the sake of it, you grabbed his hand. He jumped at your touch. You didn't know whenever you made the situation better or worse. Being wary of people assuming you're a couple, you said " Dude, calm down." YOU KNOW, LIKE FRIENDS DO.
The flight attendant's voiced boomed in the plane.
"Flight passengers, please prepare for take-off please."
Kazuichi was at the verge of tears but quickly got rid of them after he saw you looking at him. With a determined look on his face, he closed his eyes and squeezed your hand. Trying to bear his fear of the plane crashing. Before the flight, you reassured him that the plane had a chance of 11 million out of one of crashing and making him die. Which did give him extra courage. However, it didn't help him with his motion sickness.
The plane was about to lift off the ground as he got pushed back into his seat from the speed. It freaked him out a bit, but he got quickly accustomed to it after squeezing your hand.
You knew he had motion sickness, so you tried to comfort him as much as possible. Even trying to give him medicine for it. But he refused, saying that he's a man and all that.
It was after 7 hours of the flight when you began to feel tired. Your eyes slowly started to close themselves as you closed your laptop and looked out of the window for the last time.
The time was 18:49. You were about more than halfway to America.
You were exhausted since you had to wake up at about 4 in the morning to pick up Kazuichi and pack your final stuff. Plus, the trip to the airport was super long as well. In addition, you had to wait for a little for Gundham so you could give him the keys to your house so he could take care of your cat. You trusted him a lot, so you didn't mind.
You yawned and turned around to see Kazuichi on your right. He was fiddling with something in his hands. You, of course, let go of his hand as soon as things were stable enough and the flight attendant said you could unbuckle your seatbelts.
Intentionally or not, you rested your tired head on his left shoulder. He jumped slightly, but then looked over at you. Kazuichi blushed slightly at your sight, then continued to fiddle with the small metal parts he had in his hands before. In all honesty, he was getting quite tired too.
Seeing the people behind his row all asleep with their chair back, he decided to do the same. Of course, being your best friend, he lowered your seat as well.
Trying his best to fall asleep, Kazuichi could not stop looking at you. Yeah, you were his best friend, but you were also his crush. You and he were basically inseparable at school. However, he doubted that his feelings were reciprocated by you. Since about a year ago, both of you started flirting with each other. Most of the times it was by accident, but sometimes you intentionally rested your head on him, and you started getting rather touchy with him. Not like he disliked it or anything, it was a glorious feeling for him, but he just couldn't get you out of his head. It was distracting during work and in school, where you sat right in front of him.
Well, love has it's ups and downs.
If being distracted when he tries to do literally do anything means that he has some pus-

let's not go there yet.
He knew he had to tell you about his love someday, but he just couldn't trust himself enough to do it. He'd obviously mess something up, right?
But he had to tell you someday. Maybe even in the next two weeks. Desperately, he hoped for something to happen in between you two.
Collecting his thoughts, he tried to rest. Falling asleep nearly instantly.
