My Dryland Bridge

I built a bridge

People came by to jeer as I worked and struggled

Someone suggested that I had at least picked a great place to build

Over the hard packed Earth

A bridge over dry land

What waste they all would say

There's no water here

He must be stark raving mad they shouted

They were right of course
It did seem a sheer waste of my time

It was a bridge

It was over dry land

It went absolutely nowhere

Then the rains came

None had ever seen rains on this level

Those who lived in the valley now ran for shelter

Most gathered under my useless bridge

Some even scampered up the embankments on either side

A few even found a way to climb over the embankments and got onto my bridge which of course was no longer over dry land

It wasn't my intention to built this bridge

I was just doing as I was told

Many times in life I have done...

Not knowing why

Just because I have been told

My faith leads me do things that I don't want to do

Only to find that it really was needed for me to do

The bridge is of course a metaphor...

The bridge is my faith...

I have done things in life that seemed to make no sense...

Only to find that it was part of a bigger plan and I was just a small part of the scheme of things...

I know not why I was born...

Or why I have been allowed to live...

I know that there is a plan of which we all play a part...
