Frank had introduced Elaine and Cameron at a party years before.

Cameron was alone at the party since his wife,Betty, had decided to stay at home. She was pregnant with their first child, but insisted that Cameron go, since the party was a work function.

Elaine did not know Cameron was married and she was intrigued by his boyish good looks and perfect manners. The two talked and drank together all night and when it was time to leave, they shared a cab.

And before the night was over, they shared a bed at a local motel.
