She held onto a plastic tray, as she followed the flow of the people. Once she was able to reach the lunch lady, she gave her a warm smile, which she returned with a scoff. She took a scoop of porridge from her huge pot, and dumped it into (Y/n)'s tray.
The next stations were filled with vegetables and fruits. (Y/n) didn't mind, but she did hope for more of a better meal.
Once she had her tray full, she left the counter, now doing the hardest part; looking for a seat.
There was a perfect empty seat at the corner of the very canteen. It was only her first day, so she thought sitting alone wouldn't be as bad as it looked.
She was just about to head her way, until she saw two familiar faces on the otherside of the room. They sat alone in a wide white table. It was Peter and Ned.
She tightened her grip on the tray, making her way through the crowd.
"Hey guys." She greeted, setting her food down and taking a seat.
Ned and Peter exchanged looks. She wasn't able to tell if they were good looks or bad looks. She thought of it as 'suprised'.
"Uhh... Are you sure you want to sit with.. Us?" Asked Ned, pointing to him and Peter.
"What do you mean? Why not?"
"Well, I don't know. The pretty girls usually sit over there." He pointed somewhere else.
(Y/n) followed the direction of his finger and eyed a group of girls sitting at a long table. They laughed and sassed about things she couldn't hear. Her face scrunched up, as she turned back to her friends. "No thanks." She smiled.
"But-- like.. are you sure?...this table is like, too "low" for someone like you." Ned adds. Peter then sheepishly nods his head, and sighs.
"Yeah." Came an unfamiliar voice. (Y/n) shot her head to the direction of the sound, and found a girl with caramel colored skin, and a messy clump of hair on her head. "This table's for losers."
"But.." (Y/n) gestured her hand towards the girl. "You're sitting here.."
"Because I don't have any friends." She blandly responds, continuing to read her book, not seeming to care anymore.
The boys each had unsure expressions on their faces, Ned being the first to take a bite out of his food.
"No thanks." (Y/n) smiled. "I like this table just fine."
Peter blushed, and of course he had to hide that. He pretended to mix his porridge, bowing his head and not looking up. Why did she have to be so nice? And cute.. And everything.
"So, (Y/n)." Ned spoke, his mouth filled with a sandwhich. "What's school like in London?"
"Oh." (Y/n) put down her spoon. "Well, its definitely a whole lot different than schools here in Queens."
"What do you mean?" Peter finally gathered up the courage to talk again.
"Well, I've always went to an all-girls school. We had to wear uniforms and have well trimmed nails all the time." She laughed, as if she was reminded of a funny memory.
