"And then you pour a tiny amount of sodium."
Peter and (Y/n) both had their safety goggles on. The next class they needed to take was AP Chemistry. Despite the brains that (Y/n) clearly possessed, this subject always gave her a hard time. Chemicals and Periodic Tables were just a little too confusing for her.
Lucky for her though, (since she was a new student and all,) she needed a lab partner, and the only student who was available happened to be Peter Parker. He claimed that he always preferred working on his own. Its that or simply no one wants to be lab partners with him.
"Okay, now pour it slowly." He ordered, going on his toes to be able to see the test tubes clearly.
(Y/n) had the chemicals in hand, as she kept cautious of even the littlest of things. She held out her arm, stepping as far as she could from the project. "Like this?"
"Yeah just keep going... Keep going... Keep going... and-- wait, wAIT, WAIT TOO MUCH!"
The chemical overflowed, soaking everything placed ontop of their table wet. (Y/n) was only able to gasp while Peter saved as much notes as he could. She slowly turned to Peter, her expression mixed with surprise and regret. "I am so, sorry "
Peter laughed. "Nah, its fine. Actually you did great! I didn't even get as close as you did on my first try."
"Oh, really?" She smiled. "Well that's interesting."
Peter took a napkin from under the table to wipe the mess. As he finished, he turned to (Y/n). "I'll just go and get new test tubes and stuff. Uhm, wait right here."
"I'm not going anywhere."
Peter left off with a smile, as he rushed towards the proctor, Mr. Madison, to ask him if he could excuse himself.
(Y/n) was left alone. She impatiently tapped her fingers on the desk, as she waited for her dear lab partner to come back. She then took out her Chemistry notebook to scan through a few notes, figuring out what she did wrong.
"Psst." Said someone from afar.
(Y/n) quickly shot her head towards the sound. She looked around, finding the person who called her.
"Pssst." It called again.
(Y/n) wasn't going to lie, she felt rather irritated. She turned her head once again, only to find a boy with jetblack hair, staring at her from head to toe. He swept his tongue over his lips and winked at her. His friends from behind laughed, giving him high-five's. He nodded, then making a "kissy-face".
She felt a shiver down her spine. She hated his absolutely disgusting behavior. This is not how someone his age should be acting like! Was he trying to flirt with her? Is he aware that its FAR from working?
Did they think (Y/n) was the type of girl to be easily swooned by over-gelled hair and leather jackets? Motorbikes and bad-boy looks? hELL. NO.
(Y/n) scoffed, rolling her eyes as she brought her attention back to her desk. She scrambled over a few pieces of paper to find the correct formula they were going to use next. Once she was finally able to find it, she placed it down and read it carefully.
Well, not really. She was just trying to avoid eye contact from the boy who was flirting with her.
"Hey!" A cheery, familiar voice called.
It was Peter, clumsily carrying about five new test tubes. (Y/n) sighed in relief. She hoped that maybe with Peter around, the boys would leave her alone. She chuckled as she helped him carry the tubes, placing them down one by one.
"Okay, we have 5 minutes left to come up with a new formula." Peter huffed. "But don't worry, I'm pretty sure we can do this."
(Y/n) smiled. Peter seems to have grown a tad bit more comfortable around her. He began to stutter less and talk in straight words. And every once in a while throw in a joke. Obviously, she was happy about that.
