As the new student in school, I get picked on or ignored. I don't have any friends yet, if I get any.

This school is for the freaks, and when I say freaks, I mean the ones with strange powers. I got put in this freak show because I can bend shadows and my own blood at will. Others can bend light or summon things like familiars or can shapeshift into anything.

I heard about this one popular girl who's a half demon-angel. No one told me her name but they told me to stay away from her, she hates new people like me.

"Mr.Wolf, would you like to work with Layla in this partner project?"

The girl looked at me with a board look on her face and she had small angel wings on her back, with a slight glow. Everyone stopped and looked at me then to Layla.

"Uh..." I stuttered. "Sure." My nervousness left me slightly shaking.

Her glow dimmed slightly and she turned around and looked away.

"Great! Class, the project will start next class period." The bell rang and everyone stood up to leave. I just stayed in my seat till everyone left, but Layla walked up to me and stared in my face with a slight amused look.

"You better watch who you decide to make friends with, you can be easily killed." She grinned then walked away.

What does she mean by getting easily killed? I shrugged off the question and hurried out of class to lunch.

The lunch hall was really crowded with people. Campus staff were standing at each corner to make sure there isn't any brutal fights. I've seen a few already and one kid got sent to the hospital because of a broken leg. That happened on my first day here at this school.

I sat at an empty table and saw Layla on the other side of the lunch hall.

Someone sat next to me and bumped into my shoulder. "Oh, uh, sorry." He stammered.

I looked up confused and wondering why he sat next to me. He was wearing a band T-shirt and jeans, looked like a guy who would get all the music girls. He had a weird glow to him and he had a feathery/scaly tail and had long wings.

"I noticed you were dreamily staring at Layla over there." The guy crunched down on his apple he was holding.

I looked down at my tray suddenly not hungry. "No, no I wasn't. Who are you anyway?"

He set his apple down and looked at Layla whose singing in a wonderful voice. "I guess you could say I'm a nobody like you." He looked at me. "I dated Layla before." He laughed a little. "She's quite a handful. I'm kind of surprised she let me date her. I mean, I'm a nobody like you now."

I sighed and looked at my tray. "Well, Layla and I are doing a class project together tomorrow."

"Don't say anything stupid okay? It'll leave you with less yelling and broken bones."
I chuckled a bit. "I'll keep that in mind. Hey want to hang out sometime?"

He looked at me then smiled. "Sure, you'll need friends to survive this place. What's your name?"

"Corrin Wolf. What about yours?"

He tossed his apple core into the garbage. "My name is Cedric, a Shaman."

I cleared my throat. "I'm a blood bender and shadow weaver. People say that I'm really strong."

His eyes looked surprised but his face stayed steady. "Interesting. We'll, Sae, you should get going. Class is about to start."

I looked at my watch then looked up at the lunch hall to find it deserted, lunch trays scattered about on the tables. I panicked and quickly grabbed my bag and ran to class.
