Chapter 19 - A Day of Questions

Start from the beginning

'You're spending too much time around me Lily. It won't be long before you stop worrying about the NEWTs for two whole seconds!' He says smiling smugly at the look of rage forming on my face.

He turns to walk into his room carrying his quidditch uniform in one hand and his broom in the other.

I grab his quidditch robes and back away as he turns around trying to approach slowly.

'What did you say to me Potter?' I say a smug look replacing my angered one.

'OK, now Lily just calm down OK? No need to do anything rash.' He says only a few feet away from me.

He lunges for his robes but I slip behind the couch.

'Oh c'mon Evans! Leave my robes out of this!' He says.

'What did you say to me?' I say.

'I said you worry about the NEWTs too much.'

'What's wrong with that?' I ask confused.

'Nothing I was just being cocky!' He says and I start laughing.

'Here.' I say throwing his robes at him, still laughing.

James cradles them and let's out a relieved sigh before realising I'm still laughing.

'What's so funny?' He asks.

'I only wanted an apology I never thought you'd actually admit you knew you were being cocky. That must have been hard for you.' I say tears of laughter in my eyes.

'You have no idea!' He says dramatically wiping his forehead.

'Now that I think about it, quidditch robes are actually quite girlie aren't they?' I say looking closely at his reaction.

'No. They are not.' James says in complete seriousness leaving a pause after each word.

I keep laughing and after a while James joins in. I love his laugh. I just love the way his eyes light up when he laughs and the way he smiles. Finally the butterflies in my stomach make a reappearance.

'I just realised I hardly know anything about you.' I say.

'Really?' He says unconvinced.

'Really.' I say but he's still unconvinced.

'Yes you do. You've heard about every single one of my pranks for the last six years.' He says.

'OK, so I know your a delinquent, I don't anything else.'

'Yes you do. Just think.' He says and the fact that James Potter of all people is the person telling me to be the person to 'think' is actually quite comical.

'OK, so I know your good at quidditch, your hair is a mess but it's OK I suppose, your always doing things to impress your father, Fleamont, you illegally became an animagus to help your friend during his transformations, you protect those you love, you act arrogant and proud sometimes but you're actually a good person, you're a clever wizard and skilled at duelling, you're creative, especially when it comes to pranks and you seemed to have improved as a human being over the years.' I finish and realise how much I have just listed off the top of my head. I suppose I know James better than I thought.

He's just smiling at me and all I can do is giggle waiting for him to speak. But he doesn't.

'What?' I say through giggles.

'And I here I was thinking you weren't paying attention.' He says.

It's only after he says it that I realise how much I have been paying attention to him over they years, I have noticed the things he does and known there has been a deeper meaning.

Unexpectedly he takes my hand, kisses it and walks to his room pausing to look back and smile at me before closing the door.

What is this boy doing to me? But he hurt me last time, I can't go there again.
