“Mommy!? Please, where are you?” The sky grew dark and the rain fell at a constant rate, gradually getting harder. 17 year old Cosima pushed herself through the raging crowd in hopes of finding her mother and as she walked in one direction the crowd screamed and ran in the other. “Mom!?“ she continued.
Once she got out of the crowd, she stopped and took a deep gasp. “No way!” Cosima saw something crazy. Something…… unreal. “Are those……. ZOMBIES!?” She's seen plenty of limping, rotting people eating and terrorizing the whole city. She couldn’t believe it. She then spotted something familiar. Someone, who looks exactly like her but older. Someone with long blonde dreads and blue eyes. Skin soft and as tan as a peach color…. Her mother. Her mother was being eaten by those sick, sick zombies. “Mommy! No!” she ran as fast as she could to her mom sadly, that was a big mistake.
She was surrounded by the zombies. They welcomed her with open arms as their teeth chattered, ready to eat her flesh. She screamed and screamed as she tried dodging every move the zombies made. Her dreads swung around and her dress twirled as she then fell onto the hard, wet concrete, looking at her dead mother rise up and begin to run for Cosima’s flesh. At last, Cosima gave up hope but it wasn’t the end. Soon, gunshots fire and the rotten flesh of the zombie’s heads ripped open, causing them to fall to their deaths. Cosima watched as her mother dropped dead and tears flew down her face with the rain. A man in a science lab coat walked towards Cosima and lead out his hand.
“Hi, I’m Dr. Morlin, come with me if you want to live.” He said as Cosima grabbed his hand and headed for the van Dr. Morlin’s son was driving.
“Hey, get up.” Dr. Morlin’s son, Theo tapped Cosima, waking her out of her sleep. They were in a science lab where people were running around in lab coats and black slacks with blue buttoned down shirts. Cosima was laying on an air mattress on the floor and looked around. “Here, put these on. The bathroom is down the hall on the left. Hurry, Dr. Morlin would like to speak to you.” Theo gave her the uniform the others wore and stood up and walked away. Once Cosima walked out of the bathroom she spotted the doctor down the hall with a clip board. He motioned her to come here and she did just that.
“Well, hello. I believe that I never got your name.” The doctor smiled ashe waited for her to reply.
“Cosima.” she replied.
“Well Cosima, you have a lot of work to do and a tour ahead of you so why don’t we just get started.” the doctor walked towards a door and Cosima followed. What she saw once she walked through that door was shocking…. Literally. She saw men and women in rooms with metal and wires attached to their bodies. They were shocked continuously by scientists with remotes in their hands.
“WHOA WHOA WHOA STOP! THEY’RE GONNA DIE! WHAT IS THIS!?” Cosima shouted.
“Oh,” Dr. Morlin laughed. “They were prisoners before the apocalypse don’t worry. See, we don’t just try to find a cure for the apocalypse, we experiment to. Of course we had to make some sacrifices which are criminals so, it doesn’t bother us. Tell me, what drives cellular life?”
“I DON’T KNOW!”
“Although the sun is an excellent source of energy, not all forms of life can utilize the sun’s energy.” Dr. Morlin high fived one of the scientists as he talked.
“WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH SHOCKING PEOPLE!?” Cosima asked.
“Forms of life needs food and water, but zombies. We wanna know why. We also want to know how to turn a human into one. All methods failed except MKULTRA which is the effort to perfect brainwashing, or mind control. MKULTRA has 4 stages, drugs, hallucinogens, sleep deprivation, then shocking techniques. You, my lady, are looking at stage 4.”
“This is wrong and you know it! I’m not doing this!” Cosima tried pushing him but failed. He grabbed her arms and throat.
“Either way you have no choice. You’re under my control now and you follow anything I say.” He let Cosima go and smiled, “Let us continue.” They continued down and entered another room, there, they found zombie’s on treadmills.
“What is this?” Cosima asked as she cautiously moved around.
“Don’t worry, they don’t bite. At Least for now,” the doctor laughed and continued, “See, we thought that brains were the only way to keep zombies alive, but we thought wrong. Apparently, zombies can live without food water and sleep. They create their own drive so, we used this as an advantage. We got a group of zombies and chained them to treadmills, in front of them we have prisoners dangling in the air. As they run and try to catch these prisoners we capture their mechanical energy and convert it into electrical, that’s how we got the power running. But don’t worry, if your precious prisoners survive after 24 hours they’re switched out with new ones. Basically they take turns. Shall we continue?”
They continued around the corner and entered a dimmed room, where Cosima finds human and zombie heads attached to machines along with parts of the organs at different spots.
“Well, what we have here are dead zombies and, sacrificed prisoners. See, we attach the severed head of the human and screwed it onto a heart-lung machine also known as an Auto Jector. As the machine begins to pump, the human’s head slowly begins to come back to life. This was tested on a lot of animals and succeeded every time. See, we tend to make major mistakes on the zombie heads but never on the human. What we want to understand is why the human turns to a zombie.” Dr. Morlin preached as he poked the head of a zombie with his pen.
“You people are sick!” Cosima screamed.
“Yes, we know.” The doctor laughed and continued on, “We tried different types of experiments with these machines for the zombies, but nothing has come to. Sadly, it is our fault that the apocalypse has happened. We were dealing with them for a long time but, somehow one broke free. Now we rome the city in hopes of finding young children, teenagers, and qualified scientists in hopes of taking them into our custody. If they don’t come willingly then they come by force. I am hoping that you are easy to deal with cosima, because if not, you will regret this with your life. I promise. But on the plus side my son needs a girlfriend, you look about his age. You’re going on a date with him. That’s final, no arguing because we know that you like to argue.” He smiled at her with delight and said, “Well let’s continue on then.”
“You’re crazy! I am not in this!” Cosima stumped her foot and after she did so, Dr. Morlin grabbed her by her dreads and pulled her along as she screamed.
They opened a door that was leading to the top of the building. There, Cosima spotted fruits and vegetables growing in an unusual way.
“Are-are those plants growing out of ZOMBIES!?” She shouted.
“Why yes, we grow food out of zombies because of the way their decomposed. But, never mind that, you have bigger worries. BOYS!?” Just then, a group of guys ran towards Cosima and pinned her down as the doctor puts a gun towards her head. “So, you have a choice, stay with us or die. Which do you prefer?” He smiled. Silence filled the area for three minutes and out came,
“I’d rather die.” Cosima closed her eyes and shed tears, thinking about her dear mother.
“Suit yourself.” Dr.Morlin shot her, not once but twice, right in between her eyebrows. Cosima's body fell forward, lifeless onto the hot roof of the tall building. Dr.Morlin had a cold, evil grin on his face like no other as he held the dead body in his arms, slowly walking towards the edge of the roof. Blood rushed out of her head and onto the ground, trailing behind both the body and Dr.Morlin. He held out his arms and let go of Cosima. He watched her slightly warm body fall onto the concrete, her body laid broken, on the ground as the sun shined its light upon her splattered brains, leaving it glistening, waiting for the zombies to eat the rest of the body....
THE END
