Origin:Legend says their ancestors were escaped slaves from Valyria around the time of Brandon the Builder. They soon become fearsome pirates and made their way across the Narrow Sea to Westeros where they claimed a new home as the Embar Isles. Due to their traveling, they were given the title of The First Men To Sail The Seas that has stayed in the families history for generations.
Side notes:Its tradition that when the Lords children turn fifteen they are to sail the seas and not return to the mainland for five years as a coming of age ritual. For a few generations After Aegons Conquest the women denied the tradition and instead learnt how to rule over the Islands while their brothers went off and sailed so when they came back the sisters could advise them in their Lordship. However due to the murder (and suspected rape) of Lyvia Seatomb at the hands of the Greyjoys during their own rebellion, Lady Athybel Seatomb was the first in over two hundred years to be a part of the tradition.
