birds singing in the sycamore trees, dream a little dream of me

-
Once outside, Calum turned to go down the path he always went down. He listened to the birds chirping in the trees, wishing he was as carefree as one. As he made his way, he stared directly at the sidewalk below him. This caused him not to see the person that nearly knocked him over.

"Oh, god! I'm so sorry, I was jogging and I came around that corner, and uh, there usually isn't anyone else out here at this time. God, are you okay?" A girl about his age in running clothes asked him while holding his shoulders to steady him.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about it. I couldn't sleep, a walk usually helps."

"Well why didn't you say so, I could've knocked you down and knocked you out! You would've slept great!"

He laughed at her and shook his head. "I think it's a sign that I should just give up and go back home."

"Yeah that's where I was headed." She joined him.

They walked in silence, only to come back to the same apartment building.

"You live here too?" He asked.

"Yeah, moved in a few weeks ago, I haven't been out much yet except for my runs."

"Ah, well, I'm Calum."

"I'm Susanna. See you around." She said as they parted ways.

Calum made it back to his room, still embedded in darkness thanks to his curtains. He kicked off his shoes and laid in his bed, finally falling to sleep. Oddly enough he dreamt about Susanna.
