Res ran through the dingy street, keeping out of the spotlight the street lamps. Silence was miroring his actions, though her steps were far more graceful. The two Order officers falling behind.

Stupid! He had been so arrogant and stupid! How had he missed the heat sensors! When trying to steal a priceless artifact, make sure you reacquaint yourself with the damn security system! He cursed himself.

He could tell Silence was pissed at him. He was pissed at himself. He was a skilled theif not an amateur.

Crook was going to be furious with them. The client had a deadline on him and would not pay if it wasn't delivered tonight. Though admittedly the client was the elder of the tribe the museum's archaeologist had stolen the relic from. Res knew what Crook was like when he was in a temper and had the scars to prove it. He still didn't know how Silence didn't flinch at all when she had recieved her beating.

Res watched Silence run next to him, her white braid trailing behind her. Res snapped back to reality, following Silence as she shimied up at drainpipe. He collapsed onto the roof of what appeared to be a store of some kind. Silence smiled mockingly at him, though she was panting as well.

"Hypocrite" Res gasped, still struggling to keep his breathing regular. Silence smirked.

Silence was mute. Her definition was complete absense of sound. Res had trouble understanding her until she taught him sign language. Res didn't know his definition, and he hated that. Hated not knowing who he was and what his purpose was. It pissed him off.

Res grappled for his tabscreen and checked the maps. They were in the middle of the residential  sector of the City. The Guild lay in the grime sector and was run by Crook Hillier. The Guild was where clients would come to purchases the services Crook offered. The jobs ranged from courtesans to theives. Crook never offered assassinations, murder would invoke an investigation from Order officers. And Crook didn't want that on his hands. Res switched the tabscreen off and stuffed it into his pocket.

Res and Silence got off the roof and picked a shadowy path towards the Guild. Being careful to watch for Order officers. Making their way through the grime sector. The City was made up of different sectors. Residential; where all the wealthy people live. Production. Agriculture and Aquaculture. Middle and Grime.

Res and Silence stopped in front of a wrought iron gate, rusted from weather.

Res considered their options. On one hand they could walk in, and be punished; couple broken bones and bruises. Or they could walk away and be hunted down and killed.

Silence pushed open the gates. The Guild was an old Order guard tower, which had been abandoned and taken over by criminals.

Courtesans were positioned on pedestals and cushions. Sitting so still they could be mistaken for statues. Their faces painted and bodies draped with beautiful clothes. Some were chained to the ground. The first floor of the Guild was by far the most grand. After all, this was where the products and services were displayed.

Res and Silence picked their way up the stairs to Crook's study. It was situated on the fourth floor; where all purchases were made and prices debated. The Guild was so old, lifts had to be built. They never went to the first floor though.

Res and Silence rode the lift to the fourth floor.

Silence signed, We should be careful. Crook is going to be furious and I don't want to layed off for injuries.

"When is Crook not in a temper?" Res laughed weakly.

He took a deep breath and knocked on the metal door. It slid open to reveal an ancient mahogany desk. Behind the desk reclining in a high backed leather chair was Crook.

Crook Hillier was tall, with long russet hair and deep brown eyes. He was about mid-thirties in age and was downright terrifying. He had an explosive temper, that Res had been on the receiving end too many times. Crook was a man who expected to be obeyed. Interrupted him and you were a dead man.

"Sit."
Res and Silence sank into to chairs opposite.
"Now would you mind explaining to me where the hell the Udokian wooden doll is?" Crook said.

He was eerily calm, a ticking time bomb seconds away from exploding.

Res cleared his throat. "We were unable to acquire it. The heat sensor went off."

"Unable." Crook said quietly. "You were unable. Do you know what happens to members of my Guild who are unable to perform their duty."

"Yessir."

Crook turned to Silence. "Silence dear, do you know?"

She nodded. Crook slapped her hard across the face.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you!" He shouted. "I took both of you in and this is how you repay me! I could have left you both for dead!"

Crook was beyond mad now. Disgust was in his eyes. He stood up suddenly and grabbed Res by his hair and smashed his head into the desk.

"You were left for dead, abandoned by your own mother! I took you in! Payed for your expense! Trained you for god sake and you routinely disobey me!" Crook screamed, smashing Res' face on the desk.

Res couldn't fight back, it was too painful. God! It hurt like hell! He was pretty sure his nose was broken. Crook released him and he collapsed onto the desk. Blood gushing out of his nose.

Crook turned to Silence.
"You!", He laughed, "Where do I begin. I have done so much for you. Hiding you. Protecting you. You are a dead woman walking. And so useless, no wonder your family wanted you dead!"

Crook was in hysterics now.
"Congratulations, I have no doll to give to the Udoku leader and now I don't get payed! Hell, he's probably going to tell the Order about the Guild!"

"You know what I have to do now?" Crook shouted, "Now I have to kill him. It going to be messy and the Order is going to definitely investigate this!"

His eyes were wide. Crook looked like patient in Psychic research facility.

"And it's all thanks to you two. Resistance Whinnerman and Silence Vasiliev."
Crook threw a punch squarely into Res' head. As he was blacking out, he could hear the only sound Silence could produce. Screams.
