(England, 1923)
An ordinary village boy named Christian loved a beautiful blonde girl named Faye. They loved and treasured each other so much that even the boy's parents and the girl's mother supported them. But her father disagreed of their relationship. He wanted her to marry into a wealthy and powerful family so that he will be rich and powerful as well. And so, her greedy father arranged a marriage for her. Even thought she was completely against it, she still put up with it because she doesn't want her father to get angry at her and may end up hurting her and her mother.
Faye got betrothed to an arrogant rich boy named Rean. The boy was happy to marry such a graceful and elegant woman of his liking. To the point that he was possessive about her. Although, Faye wasn't happy at all with her new life. She wasn't allowed to go out by herself as she used to. She was trapped and caged inside, like a songbird. She yearned for freedom. Freedom to be herself. Freedom to love.
Christian was heartbroken at first, thinking that he will never get to see his beloved again. All he felt was sadness, loneliness, and despair. He will never get to marry the love of his life. But his parents pushed him to fight. They told him that if you truly love someone, Fate will slowly do its work. And so, he fought. He kept believing that fate will bring them together in the end.
One faithful day, Christian spent time talking with his beloved near her window as they've been doing for the past 2 months. Rean then heard Faye saying something that he can't quite grasp. Then he asked his future wife, "Hey, is someone in there?" She responded, flustered. "Uh N-No, just talking to myself."
Rean went inside, doubting Faye. What he saw was not Faye talking to herself, but talking to Christian, a fellow he did not like, from her window. He always felt challenged by the village boy. He thought that one day, this common boy will take away his fiancée. So, he forbade her to speak any words with him. Finding out that she broke his rules, he lost his temper. Rean slapped Faye across the face. He screamed at her, " I warned you not to speak to him, didn't I ?!"
Faye went down on the floor, tears filling her eyes. She felt Rean's eyes on her, staring lowly at her. He was mad, angry, and pissed. The fact that he didn't even say sorry proves it.
Meanwhile, Christian had to watch that whole scene from the outside. He watched wide eyed as he slapped her harshly. He curled his fist, feeling frustrated. He didn't do anything to help Faye. He couldn't save her.
Rean noticed the boy's stare from outside. He stared back at him, giving the mutual feelings that he was giving him. They despised each other for completely different reasons. The two boys had an intense stare off, not one of them wavering.
That night, Christian sneaked inside Faye's bedroom. He told her to be quiet, and to listen to him. Christian asked her to take his hand and run away with her. Faye reluctantly take his hand but she asks, "What if they find us? What if we get caught? What if...," she trailed off, "What if they take you away from me?"
Christian only hugged her. "I'll always protect you, and promise to never leave your side." He reassured her.
The couple then ran through the cold, quiet streets. Although they were freezing, smiles were plastered in both their faces. Faye never felt so happy in her life. She didn't regret her decision at all. Although the consequences will be heavy if they ever get caught. She believed in his promise. She believed in him.
Rean wanted to say sorry. He calmed down after a few minutes and realized what he's done. He said sorry immediately after coming to his senses but the girl was afraid of him now. Rean decided that it was best to leave her alone and give her time to clear her mind and calm down. That same night, he went towards Faye's room. "Faye, dear, are in there?" He asked as he knocked on the door. Hearing no response, he guessed something was wrong. "Faye, I'm coming in." His guess was right. When he opened the door, what greeted him was an empty bed and an open window. His precious bride-to-be had ran away with him. With Christian, no doubt. "That little..." He cursed. He ran out of the house and into the city streets. Rean searched vigorously for where they might be hiding. While seeking for his betrothed, he promised to fate, "I will make them pay for this! One day..!"
