Humming along to the totally vintage music playing in the background while sitting on my windowsill, watching as the old man from across the street, chase a cat out of his apartment. Everyday he has a new rodent running around his place and somehow its aesthetically pleasing to hear his shouts and scolds towards  the filthy little things.

Its my summer break and I've done nothing but stay home and listen to my 9 year old brother complain about Spongebob Squarepants not being shown enough on the television. Being a junior in high-school with 2.3 GPA and no friends is not exactly the recipe for the "funnest" summer vacation.

Its quarter to midnight and I feel completely awake. I've stayed up this late before, finishing projects that never got passed a C and studying for tests that I've completely failed. I've successfully  achieved the total loser in high-school package.

After my the old man was finished playing tag with his new little friend, I headed to my kitchen for a midnight snack. I literally could open my door, take five steps and end up standing right in front of my refrigerator door. 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen and a living room all squashed into a small apartment was the definition of where I lived, but I wasn't complaining. It was just my mom, MY little brother and I. My dad left my mom 2 months after my little brother was born and we haven't seen him since.

I heated up some ramen soup on the stove and sat down on my counter to enjoy. Thinking about the many things my dad could be doing at this very moment. He could be sleeping like a baby in his mansion with a supermodel wife and many sports cars, or he could be on the streets begging for crack cocaine to sniff while her regretted his choice to leave us. I wished upon the latter.

I love that late nights hold such mystery. Like that girl walking down the street could have just sneaked out her house and is on a way to a friends house, or she could have just caught her boyfriend cheating on her. You just never know.

Or the group of friends whose laughs are echoed throughout the streets could have just gotten into the biggest bar fight and won, or heading to the best party of their lives. It amazes me. The fact that everyone in this world is doing completely different things at this very moment.

This is what I think of on my late nights.
