Not Your Time

It's been a year since I lost my best friend and the love of my life. For a long time my mind wasn't able to accept the fact that he's really gone. What can I say? I'm eighteen years old and lost my best friend, Naruto Uzumaki, a year ago today. Don't get me wrong this isn't the first time I lost someone I loved; and it won't be the last either.
School hasn't been the same without Naruto. Sometimes I feel like I'm not even here, like part of me is missing. But this has been a feeling I've had since his death. Maybe it's because I love him, but the only problem is I never got to tell him . . . I was going to the day he died, but never got the chance. I can't help but wonder whether things would be different if I had told him. Would he still have died that day? If he had not gone out that day and instead was with me, would he still have been hit? Or would he still be here with me?
Now I know that Naruto died because of an accident. He was walking home late at night, there was a speeding car, the driver didn't see Naruto, Naruto got hit and his injuries we're too severe, there was nothing the doctors could do. I remember my parents rushing us to the hospital, where we met up with Kakashi and Iruka, Naruto's adoptive parents. We waited for hours while Naruto was in the ICU, doctors fighting to try and save his life. But when one of the doctors came out of the room, a look of sadness and pain in his eyes, I knew. I knew that I lost Naruto, my best friend, my love.
When the doctor stopped in front of us, his voice was sad as he disclosed the news to us. I remember hearing both Iruka and my mother gasp before hearing the sobs that escaped through their hands, as they held their faces. I watched as Kakashi and my father held their respective spouse. I can't recall if I cried, I can only remember my heart shattering, not only because I lost the one I loved. No, my heart clenched as I watched Kakashi hold Iruka with tears of his own. They were like second parents to me. They only became Naruto's adoptive parents when he was just twelve, after Naruto lost his grandparents, Jiraiya and Tsunade, in a car accident. They only had Naruto as their son for four years . . .
I remember my mother and father hugging me. I haven't seen my father cry like this since we lost Itachi. After losing Itachi, Naruto helped the whole family not just me; he became like a son to my mother and father. So for my father to cry like this again, was proof that my Naruto was gone. It was proof that I will never see his blue eyes, that could even make the ocean and sky jealous, again, or hear his laugh that could bring a smile to my face even on the hardest days.
He was my sun, he was my light; my other half. And now my light is gone and I'm only left with darkness. I can't help but feel like a part of me died along with Naruto that day at the hospital. It's hard to believe that it has already been a year since he died. It's been a year since my mind has been plagued with one question: Was Naruto's death really an accident? I know that he wasn't the happiest person in the world, but would he really go as far as to commit suicide? And if so, what pushed him to that conclusion? On second thought, I wonder if I'm just being paranoid, but I remember him telling me once that he had wanted to end everything. I remember never wanting to leave his side after his small confession. I couldn't help but wonder if I knew the real Naruto or if I just knew the Naruto that wasn't real, the one that was a mask over the true one.
I can't even imagine Naruto doing that, but, then again, a part of me believes that that's what happened. Again, maybe I'm being paranoid, Naruto got hit by a car, so how could it be anything other than an accident? The only problem is that I don't know, but I'm going to find out one way or another, no matter the consequences.
