trigger

verb
1.
cause (an event or situation) to happen or exist.
"an allergy can be triggered by stress or overwork"

we use the word trigger so lightly
"she triggers me"
"this homework triggers me"
"wow, this triggers me"

but;
no one recognizes what
the word trigger
really means

i smell his cologne
i get prompted
i instantly recognize that smell
even if it doesn't belong to him
and my insides hurt

i see a plastic butter knife
i get provoked
it brings up the childhood
i wish didn't existed

i see a toddler scribbling
with red pen on paper
i get stirred up
i think of the red lines
i draw on my paper

we take it so lightly,
maybe we think it's a joke
maybe joking at pain
masks the pain
what i do know

is that the word trigger
is more then being upset
because your math teacher
assigned you homework
