I spent my life chasing after shadows

I spent my time chasing after wind

It's time to change my mind

Before I lose my mind

They tell me I've got to be someone

Someone I'll never really be

It's time to stop listening, time to be me

I am free, I am free

Chorus 1:

It's time to change my mind

Before I lose my mnd

It's time to lose my mind

Before I lose my mind

Oh, yeah!

They tell me I've got to do this or that

In order to be the very best

Nonetheless I've failed their test

I protest, I protest!

Chorus 2:

I am free to be me!

I am free, I am free!

I am free to be me!

I am free, I am free to be me

Oh, Yeah!

(Bridge)

It's time to change my mind before I lose my mind

It's time to change my mind before I lose my mind

I am free to be me,

I am free!

©Elisabeth Kitzing /album: Change My Mind,

Why I wrote Change My Mind: I wrote this song when I was working like a slave at a bank. The work environment there sucked big time. We chain-drank coffee, worked insane amounts of hours and didn't get reimbursed for any overtime. No encouragement, just reprimands from the big boss.

The big customers got the best deals while the small ones were treated like rookies AND the labor union didn't help us at all. It was insane. After I quit my job, half of the department did the same. Nobody liked the place. Songwriters bleed songs and this songcaptures exactly how I felt then.

I had taken this job because I was chasing prestige.
It wasn't worth it. I had to change my mind about what sucess is in order to find peace of mind.

I even wrote another song about this crazy situation. (It's not on the Change My Mind album but it is a zonker and because I wrote it while at the bank, I'll throw it in here too).

BlackCoffee

Black coffee all day, cigarette in my face, no more!

Talking negative to me, all those juppies, no more!

Computers are not my bag

think of all the fun I'd have - if I quit my job!

Don't want to be abused

Won't let them light my fuse, no more!

Not gonna be their clown

Not gonna be knocked down, no more!

If they want to be so mean, they can do it without me

When I quit my job

Chorus:

Money, money it's so very funny

Money, money, money

Money, Money it's so very funny

For a girl like me, I just wanna be free

Not gonna chase prestige

Just gonna find the real me O, Lord!

My heart's made up it's mind

I leave it all behind that door

I won't miss 'em now that I am gone

I'll keep singing my freedom song! Oh...

Money, money - it's so very funny

Money, money, money

Money, money -  it's so very funny

For a girl like me I'm just gonna be free!
