Zip's POV
We were on a ship. I, Zip stayed in a cage with my brother Zap. We were both cheetahs. In the cage next to us lay Patch, the leopard. She lay down on the ground. Finn the eagle perched in a bird cage. He was quite intelligent. Umbra the wolf was all our best friend. He was very caring and didn't care about the fact that we were different. Swift the fox, lay in a cage opposite to us. Umbra was next her and Spots the hyena was on the other side of her. When Spots first arrived, I had loathed his dark, shadowy looks. But now we're friends. The ship swayed. Suddenly we felt the whole boat tip, front first.
We knew the boat was sinking.
We yelled and shouted at the door, hoping some human would rescue us. It took several minutes. We were doomed. Water had already started to flood the floor of the room. Finally the door unlocked and people scurried to unlock the cages. We ran and flew up the stairs to the deck of the ship. Waves tossed the ship and it was more than halfway from sinking. Finn flew up to find the nearest island. The rest of us swam. The ship sunk and it took us a while to reach an island. There was no sign of any human surviving. We panted, out of breath on the shore. Finn found us soon enough. After resting a while we made a shelter out of a cave and some leaves and branches. We checked the cave was deserted first. It was too big. Evening came and Patch fished for sea food. We ate the fish until there was bone. It was lucky that most of us ate fish. Spots and Swift ate it anyway. Who knew how many fish Patch would be able to catch. Who knew how long we would be here...
