Drowsily my eyelids opened and an unclear female voice sounded. It took a couple seconds for the world to come into focus and for me to understand what the voice was saying.
"Please get dressed and wait in your rooms for an escort." The voice kept repeating, prompting me to get up. I had fallen asleep in my prisoner's clothes, so I didn't need to change, not that I had any other clothes in the first place.
A few more minutes passed in this lonely room until the woman's voice cut. An awkward silence followed until a guard opened my door and curtly said, "Out."
As per usual I followed the guard, who simply turned the corner right next to my room and opened the metal door. It lead to a small hall with two doors. We took the right and I saw only another metal door. It had three locks and looked depressing and heavy. I entered through that door and found myself in a very very small room, smaller than my jail cell. I was practically crammed into it, there was really only room for two very skinny people or one slightly over weight person. The walls were a dark metal too, with shadows of dark blue. A speaker existed on the ceiling (which grazed my head), and the guard shut the door and locked it. Suddenly it was pitch dark except for a small light on my right, of the color white, which illuminated only a handle next to it.
"Please wait. Errors being handled." Said the female voice.
And then- "Welcome officially to the Attachment. All arrangements met.
Here we will explain the rules. Please keep in mind any attempt for escape before, during, or after the event may result in injury and or death.
Rule 1: All killing during the event of any species entered into the event is legal. Rule 2: escapement of the confined areas during the event will result in death. Rule 3: do not remove the material placed over eyes before you hear from a guide that the event has started. Rule 4: Error- There are no more rules. All acts are legal in the confined areas, once the event starts.
We will now slip you a note with the words Saved or Killed, and with a definition of the ability, or reason we entered you into the event. When you have memorized your position please place the paper into the incinerator by the light. Please stand by."
Fairly awkward, the silence felt.
So firsts the other victims were probably listening to this too, and second, Death or injury to any species during the event is legal so that meant there was going to be other species, something I was not aware of. Third we were being blindfolded taken there, and would take it of when the Attachment actually started.
Something white fluttered besides me, reflecting the light. With ease I plucked the small paper out of the air .
Suddenly, dread filled me. I did not want, I could not become a killer. That position only held entertainment for the Neuros. However much I may hate my fellow species I didn't want to be forced to rip their throats out. So what would I do if that was my position? My survival was my priority. So i guess I'd have no other choice- I threw my eyes onto the paper and read before I could think to much and-
Saved
I fell back onto the wall, sighing in relief, and slid down to the floor, heart still pounding hard in my chest. I flipped the paper over
Unknown condition. Was written on the back.
What did that mean?
Once i absorbed the information scribbled on the small paper, i felt next to the tiny light and found a handle. I pulled it, and in a blaze and flash of light I saw flames licking their metal barriers. My arms and face burned and wherever skin was facing the fire it felt ice cold with heat. I tossed the paper into the fire as if it too were flames and released the handle. The incinerator closed with a clank and I heard the locks on the door shiver.
