Taking care of first graders is nothing but terrible. Like seriously, who thought that putting six and seven year olds in a single class was a great idea?. I trudge into class and put up my best fake smile. "Good morning kids." They all respond in an enthusiastic chorus. I look around to note any absentees and I notice an unfamiliar face. I move over to her.

"Hello!" I say brightly. "What's your name?" She looks up from the paper she was scribbling on and rolled her eyes (or did her best impression of it) "Louisa."

"Well, Louisa, do you have a last name?" "Duh, of course." "What is it then?" "Hunt."

"Welcome to our class, Louisa Hunt." I walk back to the front of the class. "Everyone, welcome Louisa to our class."

"Welcome Louisa!" They chorused as I settled down to begin the class.

During recess, I worked on completing my correspondence online course. I had taken math as a major and was completing some assigned work when I spotted her. I put on a kind smile "Can I help you with anything?" She pointed to my notebook "You're doing it wrong."

What?

"That question. You're not doing it right."

I was stunned. I couldn't even comprehend how a first grader could understand advanced calculus. I tried to keep my cool.

"How do you know?" I challenged, managing a neutral expression. She had a kind of scared look, like she did something she shouldn't have.

"I-I dunno." She said, already backing out the door. "I shouldn'ta said anything." And she bolted, leaving me frozen to my chair.

What just happened?
