Early the next morning, Rj absent-mindedly walked into the bathroom while Maine was washing her face. She also "forgot" that she was a "new" resident. Rj, with eyes half closed, walked straight to the toilet and peed. After doing his business, he walked out of the bathroom. Dumb-founded, Maine, stood by the sink, still holding her toothbrush. She finished up quickly and rushed back to her room to get dressed.
Maine walked into the kitchen to find Rj, still in his pajamas and a tattered t-shirt, standing by the counter, staring out the window.
"....good morning...." Maine said as she opened the fridge. She took out a bottle of jam, and got the loaf of bread from the counter. She went to the toaster in the corner and toasted a few slices. "....how many do you want?"
Rj turned and replied, "two please...uhmm...sorry.....we're you just in the bathroom?"
"....yes...." Maine said, shyly as she took the bread from the counter to the table.
"Oh shoot! Sorry...sorry...."
Maine just shrugged her shoulders, avoiding Rj's gaze.
"Coffee?" Rj offered.
"Please..." Maine replied.
He sat opposite her at the table and shared the jam, using the same knife to spread the jam.
"What are your plans for the day?" He asked. It was early Saturday morning, they both didn't have work.
"I still have some stuff to put away....I was also thinking of walking around the block to explore...." Maine replied.
"....there's a strip mall a few blocks from here, if you don't mind walking....about 4 blocks west...."
"What's there?"
"There are a few restaurants and shops....a good ramen place is around that block..."
"Oh....ramen..."
"You like ramen?"
"Favorite!" Maine exclaimed.
".....ganito....I'll help you arrange your stuff then we can go exploring together....I'll be your guide...."
"How about your girlfriend?"
"Amanda?....she's out of town...."
"...ahhh...."
".....she'll be back in a couple of weeks still.....she went visiting family in the east coast....."
"Hmmm....."
Rj helped Maine put her new room in order.
"....so you collect stuff?"
"Yeah...I collect erasers...."
"Cute."
"Do you collect stuff?"
"Hmm....Ironman is my favorite.....I have a few in my room upstairs..."
"Ahh..."
"Wait lang ha....I just need to use the bathroom...." Maine said as she stood up and went out of the room.
Rj continued to put her books in the bookcase. Rj was a self-confessed OC so he was busy arranging the books by height when Maine returned to the room.
"....what titles do you like reading the most?" He said when he noticed her come in. She had 2 glasses of water and handed him one.
"...as you can see, I collect mostly Asian authors....'Wild Swans' is a favorite...."
"Wow! That's the thick, green one, no?"
"Yes...."
"How many times have you read it?"
"3 times.....I also like the Harry Potter series...."
"....have you been....?"
"Been where?"
"To the Wizarding World....at Universal Studios...."
"I've been to Universal when I was a little girl....but I haven't been able to return yet.....I went there before Harry Potter was built...."
"..ahh...you should go..."
"I want to!....maybe when I've saved enough again......"
At noon, they headed out to the shops a few blocks away from the apartment.
"....wait lang....your girlfriend, Amanda, does she know that a girl is renting at your place?"
"Yes..."
"And she's okay with it?"
"....yeah....she lives across town...."
"Why didn't she want to rent the room instead?"
"...she considered....but she wanted to stay in her own place....she lives with her bestfriend, Nicole...."
"I see...."
As the sight of the shops came into view, Rj said, "....we're not together anymore....", softly.
