Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Life is short and words are long, so by spending quality time with your nose in a book is to live a thousand realities without wasting time in your own.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Ophelia Singer, and I am a girl in a high school with lots of people. Plenty of room for social interactions, right? Wrong. I have a bunch of "friends", but I prefer to stick around my few closest friends. I'd trust them with my life. The other ones with whom I'm not so close... not so much. Which is understandable considering most of them are douchebags who annoy the living heck out of me every second of their existence.

I've spent three years in this prison called high school, but luckily for me this is my fourth and final year. We are in the home stretch people, the light is at the end of the tunnel.

I like math, science, taking naps, and eating. I prefer to sit around my house and crochet or watch tv, but sometimes I get a little adventurous and sit outside. Obviously this doesn't last for very long because here I am sitting inside the comfort of my own home again.

I live with my mom and my dad, and we have two rescued puppies. They're both some variation of dachshund, although one is a devil child and the other is a cat. They're interesting creatures, that's for sure.

My favorite book is none of the above because choosing a favorite would be like choosing a favorite child and that's not right (just between you and me, it's actually Divergent by Veronica Roth, whoops).

My favorite song is Dynasty by Miia as it is one of the most beautiful songs to play on a piano. Please do give it a listen; I guarantee you'll either like it or dislike it.

I'm 17 and still young, but what my eyes have seen some of you would never come to understand. I ask that you please proceed with caution: these memories are some of my most hidden secrets and I will jump out of these pages for only two reasons.

Since you've made it this far and you're here to listen to my story, I'd like to know something about you: how much does what other people say matter to you? Just think about it for a minute. Do your friends make you feel special and included all the time, and is trust one of your most important virtues in relationships? I will tell you that it probably should be, and things you said may come back to bite you in the butt.

Whether you're a girl or a boy, or variations thereof, you know how difficult it is to tell when someone's lying. Some people can look at facial expressions and body movements and know when the truth is being told. Me, on the other hand, I am not so talented. I put my trust in those I've grown up with, and learn who I can trust based on their actions. It's not exactly the safest method of trust, but it's what I've been doing. And up until this point, it's worked for me.

But something changed my mind.

I tell you all this in the first part of my story because I need you to keep an open mind. My story is unique to me, and in order for you to understand it, you need to trust me in what I say (which is probably a bad idea, but whatever, right?)

You! Yes, you there, the one reading this! Do you trust me? No? Good choice. Yes? Follow me into my world as it gets thrown up against a wall, burned at the stake, torn to pieces, eaten, and regurgitated all because of a book I found on my shelf one day. I must warn you, this is not an ordinary book. Nope, not at all. The only things ordinary about it are that it has a cover and pages.

Well, that's enough about that. I'd imagine you'd like to be getting to the meat and potatoes of the story now. I will, for times sake, explain that my story starts in elementary school when I first met my best friends. I'd love for you to meet them like I did as an easier way of explaining why I trust them.

If you'll allow me, I do believe I have a story to tell.
