I wake up to hear shouting, again.
"ANASTASIA ROSE BURNS, GET DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!" My mother screams from what sounds like the kitchen.

I groan loudly, putting a hand to my forehead. I glance over to my alarm clock on my nightstand.

'Jesus woman, it's four in the morning. Why are you awake already?'

I roll out of bed and hurry out of my room. She usually keeps screaming for me until I appear in front of her.  I peek into my little brother Andy's room to find him laying across his bed starfish style. She doesn't need to wake up Andy, he hasn't been sleeping well for some time.

When I get down to the kitchen my mother is standing there with hands on her hips and a scowl on her face. "Care to tell me why I found a beer bottle in the trash?"

'Shoot. I didn't expect her to pull the trash this early, I was hoping I could get to it first.'

She stood there staring at me, waiting for an answer. I internally groan and kick myself. "Well.. I just got curious of how it tasted. There was only one left, it was sitting in the back of the fridge. Dad use to drink them all the time and I just wanted to see what the appeal was is all. I didn't even drink all of it, it was so gross I dumped the rest after my first sip."

She stood there staring at me, eerily quiet. Then finally after a minute she spoke, "I understand you're 17 and curious about these things. I was just as curious as you when I was 17. Your father actually was the one who broadened my horizons and pushed me to try out new things. I was a stick in the mud till he came into my life."

Looking in her eyes I could tell she loved thinking of those old memories but it hurt at the same time. I was furious at my father when I found out what he did. My mom walked in on him and my little brothers babysitter having sex in their bed. Now he's living in a condo with her on the other side of town. But what's more disgusting is the fact that's she's twenty and he's forty five! I mean come on! Atleast stay in your own age range for crying out loud.

My mother speaking got my attention again. "Go back to your room and get some more sleep. Remember school is delayed a few hours for you today. We will speak more on this matter later."

I nodded at her and went back to my room. As I walked up the stairs I realized I was not tired anymore. Thinking I would have my head chopped off by her had me wired. When I got to my room I shut my door and grabbed my laptop off my desk. I sat against the wall on my bed and squirmed until I was comfortable. I checked my email for my new schedule for work and saved it. After looking through the rest and trashing most, I finally felt tired again. I curled up into my big cotton comforter and fell right asleep.
