#44 Buttons

You stare at buttons
on keyboards
at the elevator
at atm's
on counters at the fastfood chain where you get your budget meal
on wide screens
and on atm's again waiting
crossing fingers.
Then you sigh
as you smell the scent of paper bills
your mind is now far away
with numbers
listing groceries
you remember how your brother asked for a new shirt
his birthday is fast approaching
then you count your bills
absentmindedly
and counters again,
after buttons
plus don't forget your vitamins
to combat the emptiness you get
at staring on buttons
reminding you of counters,
of cycles,
and circles,
and now you understand
why this world is round.
