"M.R Kyerese Anthony Alphonse, it can now be declared that you have been granted full custody of your brother M.R Samiel Ashley Alphonse. That will be all." The judge slammed the gavel as the court room suddenly erupted with low chatter whilst people began to stand and gradually leave.
"Man,FUCK THIS!" Sammie caused an instant silence in the atmosphere as everyone shockingly watched him rip his tie from his neck and storm directly through the double doors.
Kye bowed his head in shame and embarrassment with his hands together, firmly in-front of him. "My sincere apologies sir." He spoke solemnly despite his clenched jaw which somewhat illustrated frustration. The Judge nodded implying that he may be excused. "I guess, i'll go after him."
"You're just 22, are you sure you can handle this Kye? He seems a handful."
"Yes, he does seem quite rash, but I can only blame myself. He's just hurting that's all. I can assure you i'll manage. Thank you ever so much for your help Steven, I wouldn't have been able to win this case without you." A firm handshake occurred between Kye and his Solicitor before he jogged off after his brother.
"The house is this way." Kye spoke nonchalantly as he stood on the step outside the magistrates court with one hand in his pocket, avoiding any form of contact with his brother sat on the other side of a lower step with his head on his crossed arms that rested on his knees. Sammie stood up at the sound of his voice. It would be adequate to say that his voice possibly caused a bit of nostalgia. It was the first time he had heard his brothers voice in ten years, however sad and vulnerable was not the way in which he wanted to be perceived, especially not as a first, in a long time, impression.
"'The house is this way'... You ain't seen me in ten fucking years and the first thing you wanna say regards some fucking directions? Is that you yeah K?" The rage within his voice had not one aspect of fear, hurt or upset. He was up front and brutal, being as straight-up as possible without any involvement of emotions. Kye of course was taken aback by this. He wasn't at all use to confrontation from his younger brother. As kids, Sammie came across extremely obedient, always followed in Kye's footsteps without a question because he knew, that he wanted to be like him when he grew up, and would protect him regardless of the circumstances... at-least, he thought he knew.
"You've become a nuisance brother, and quit speaking like that." With still, not even a glance, Kye began walking ahead. "I'm guessing you still remember where we lived Right? That's the place. Take your time." He continued to speak coldly, as if he were speaking to a wall.
Sammie laughed pretentiously, shaking his head with an extremely wide and sarcastic smile. "Go to hell man." and with that he turned the opposite way spitting carelessly on the side-walk and then striding across the street with a sense of purpose, not once looking back.
---------------------------
"If you think for a second that i'm staying with that big headed stupid dick face, you can think again Den. I will live on the streets if I have too." Sammie spoke aggressively, knowing he in fact had no choice but to go with his brother as a minor who just about escaped the detention centre. He threw his things into a suitcase as Dennis stood by the door of their bedroom seemingly saddened by the whole situation.
" I can't believe it man! This is so fucked up."
Dennis and Sammie had been practically best-friend's ever since Sam came to stay at the care home, with both of them instantly clicking at age 10 once they found out that they preferred GTA to Fifa. They did absolutely everything together which mostly consisted of extreme trouble. Together they were kicked out of school as arsonist's, setting the boys-toilets on fire as there last and final, intentional escape plan, to fighting anyone they had a disliking too and selling drugs for money. Last year Sammie decided to open up to Dennis, revealing absolutely everything about him and the range of situations he had endured before they met, which confirmed the depth of their friendship.
"Listen, if you ever need anything, anything my brother, I got your back. you hear me?" He quickly ran his fingers through his shabby brown hair revealing a few of his sleeved arm of tattoos.
"Yeah, Den. Your my bro for life, you know that. Just a few months left until we're eighteen and we can get our own place man, no one will be on our cases, we can fuck bitches and get money all day." They both laughed as Sammie scooped underneath the bed and reached out for a box, a cigar box. This caused Dennis to swallow the rest of his laughter and glare widely at the box Sammie was now stashing into the bag.
"Your taking that with you! Are you insane?"
"You never know, I might have to buss a cap in my dumb old brothers head." Sammie chuckled to himself.
"Well alright, you know what your doing. Just know that thing has a place here under my bed right next to mine, it's bait over here" Sammie finally zipped up the bag and turned to Denny.
"It all love my bro." They transferred a brief handshake before firmly hugging one another and then laughing to themselves just based on the moment the were having, and how surreal it all felt.
"JayJay! Kameal! Ronnie! Tyler! Rickie! Come say bye to your big bro." Loud thumps were heard from the boys running up the stairs. These were the few younger kids Sammie seemed to have approved of with JayJay aged two being the youngest. Sammie picked him up throwing him in the air a couple of times and laughing.
"You be a good boy you hear me. SamSam will come and see you soon. Kameal, Ron, we all know school is a bitch but stay in there alright, get the hell out of here and make something of yourselves. Don't do the Denny and Sammie style and get yourselves kicked out to then turn to illegal shit." He passed a handshake through to 10 year old Ron and 7 year old Kameal before putting JayJay down. "Rick, Ty look after them three, they're your priorities in here... family you hear me. I'd tell you lot to stay in school but me and Den out here being bad ass influences and stuff... take this for the drop you did for me today whilst I was in court, appreciate it my bros. And if you have anyone bothering you, get me involved." He carelessly pulled a handful of money from his pocket, split it and then gave it to each of them without counting. "Listen up, all of you! FUCK Sonia! She don't do shit but live off all the benefits she receives for living under the same damn roof as us and that's it. Rick, Ty, I need you to step up and help Den with JayJay, Kameal and Ron. Fuck the other kids, their Sonia's business. All you need to focus on is growing up into men and get the fuck out here." Sammie laughed along with the boys stood before him. "I don't know why I'm making this goodbye long, when I'll be round the corner anyway, but I guess it won't be like living with all you fools." His voice lowered and then faded.
"You'll be good big bro, take it easy." Rick chanted.
And that was it. Seven years of living with 15 boys and Sammie walked out the door without uttering a word to anyone else, without looking back at the run down building not even once as his suitcase ran across the pavement in the darkness due to the few streetlights in the area. He seemed fine of course, but what was running through his head must have been extremely difficult for any normal person to bare.
Sammie had just left his home of seven years and his closest friends to go and live with his brother he hadn't seen for that same amount of time, in the house he never looked at when passing to go to school or sell drugs, but shivered when walking by instead.
The house he watched his mother and father get killed in, with his very own eyes.
