"Why should I?"

I ask myself this question all the time. Have you ever asked yourself, "Why did I do that?" or, "I regret doing that." I do.

I wish I could take back my mistakes but the saying goes, 'Learn from your mistakes.' I have learned so much that when I look back I keep thinking that I was too naïve. Maybe that's why I hate dwelling on the past. My past is something I don't like to think about. If I told anyone they'd probably pity me but I don't like being pitied. What's the point of feeling bad for someone? It's not going to change their past or their pain. Yes that may sound heartless but it is true. Well I'm not writing this to just rant. I'm writing this to tell you my story. This story..... I don't know how to explain but I'm gonna try my best. This takes place 253 years ago. October 7th, 1763. The issue proclamation issued by King George III. The reason for this is because back then the settlers were destroying the Vampire's territory. Yes vampires exist. The Vampire king asked King George III to preserve their land. King George III, having no reason to refuse, decided to help them. The Vampires were very grateful to King George III for preserving their land. The two kings agreed to help each other when they needed it urgently. For a while it went smooth. One day King George III was on the verge of death. He summoned for the Vampire King who appeared at his side in mere seconds. King George III asked for a favor of the Vampire King. He asked him to protect his children and keep them oblivious to what happened between them. Since they were very close the Vampire King couldn't refuse. He agreed to protect King George's III children. He was very grateful and died knowing his children would be safe. Of course that's what every parent thinks when they leave their children into the hands of someone they trusted. How wrong he was. After he passed there was a problem after a problem, war after war. Everything he didn't want for his children to go through they did. The Vampire King did the best he could to protect us but there were some things he couldn't protect us from seeing. We were very rebellious children, my siblings and I. At night we'd sneak out the house very quietly so we wouldn't wake up our father (or so we thought) and go into the woods to play. Every time we went we saw dead bodies but we thought nothing of it for we thought they were fake and put there by our father. We used to jump over them and giggle when our youngest brother would fall next to one and pretend to be dead next to it Yet we came to find out they were real when we saw one of them die in front of us. We weren't really traumatized, we just felt bad that we were using the dead bodies for fun without really knowing the truth. Our father, The Vampire King found out that we kept sneaking out the house at night that he put up security cameras to keep watch on us to make sure we didn't go far. As I stated earlier we were rebellious children. The Vampire King had children of his own, one boy and one girl. They would use their powers to repeat the scene that the video cameras had. Once they did that we ran as fast as we could to get past them. One time my little sister tripped and fell scraping her knee. Since we didn't want to get caught, Callidora (The Vampire King's Daughter) ran to Lili, picked her up and camouflaged themselves so they wouldn't be seen by the cameras. Obviously they weren't caught but that did cut it close so we all had to keep an eye on Lili so that wouldn't happen again. As usual we went into the woods and instead of playing with the bodies we knelt beside them and prayed that they are resting in peace. Sometimes I would see a shadow of a figure near us. I would be confused but when I tried to talk to it the figure would disappear and wouldn't return. I asked my other siblings if they ever saw a figure when we prayed and they would all say, "No. You must be imagining things." I would brush it off but something told me I was special somehow.

When we all got tired we'd all return home and go into my room since mine was the biggest and fall asleep except me. I never slept but that never affected my health. Our father came into my room to see us sleeping but me. He walked over to me and kissed my forehead but that would end up being the last time I saw my father, The Vampire King. He looked into my brown and golden eyes.

"You have the most beautiful eyes in the world." He would always tell me that my eyes meant I was destined for great things but I never believed him... not back then anyways.

He stared at me for a couple minutes before taking my hands into his. He seemed distressed and it bothered me.

"Father, how come you seem so distressed?" He smiled at me.

"Honey I will give you a choice." He looked down towards the ground.

I glanced out towards the window that was next to me. The moon was full and I knew what that meant. They are coming tonight.

"What is the choice Father?" He slowly raised his head to meet our eyes.

"Would you rather save your own life or save the lives of your siblings and others?" I looked at him confused.

"Why the answer is obvious Father. I'd rather save the lives of my siblings and others although Callidora and Umfredo can kick some serious ass." He stared hardly at me but softened his expression.

"Honey, tonight you guys will not remember a single thing from here. Well you might considering your mental strength. Tonight I will bestow upon you my powers while at the same time unlocking your inner demon but once I do your body will clash between light and darkness yet you will not feel a thing. It is up to you if you will pursue light or dark." I was only 14 at the time but I understood what he said.

"I understand Father. No matter the troubles that I will face I will pursue light and protect my siblings." He nodded as he tried his hardest to keep his tears from falling.

"Now this will hurt like.......hell but please try to bear with it." I nodded and he bit into my neck.

I felt immense pain shooting into my neck and traveling throughout my entire body. A burning sensation as strong as the flames of hell. I did not scream throughout the whole process as I did not want to seem weak in front of my father. Tears did well up in my eyes making it harder to suppress my scream. My father hugged me while stroking my hair singing me a lullaby. I was happy but the pain burning through me overpowered my happiness. I never understood why father chose me to have his powers and to this day I still don't understand. What I do know is from there on out our lives would spin out of control.
