So I've been playing this one myself so why not share it?
You can start out at any place you like
Rules:
1. You have to be as far from civilization as you can be in your world
2. You must have at least one horse for transportation, or instead you could walk or bike everywhere if you don't have ts3 pets
3. To make money, you can either be a Gardner
Making home goods such as jewelry, pickled veggies or jam with the canning station Or you could be a Fisher.
(For the sims 4 you could probably use the same methods just involving mods for the canning mod and jewelry making)
4. You have to build you house, from the money you have left from buying your lot
5. Any money or mood cheats can't be used to make the challenge easier
6. You can have loans! any amount of money using motherload 50,000, kaching 1,000, family fund [ family last name] [amount of money] (rosebud for ts4)
but the penalty is you have to pay the amount of money back before the next season starts
( sims 4 you could pay the money back before the next week started)
7. Even more extreme but! realistic
since my sim was a Gardner and I gave them two sprinklers I took -200 in water bill fees
8. who ever you marry or add to your household will have to quit their job and become a homesteader like your sim.
9. Limited technology, a house phone and a few lights but if you really wanna make it without any you could use candles that you can buy from, buy mode or from the grocery store.
