She ran
The girl ran
Through forests, over deserts
With only the memory of her pounding feet
She had forgotten
Soon, she forgot even the rhythm of her relentless pace
Forgot that she ran at all
He feet grew black with weariness
Her neck became long and graceful
She soared on wings of white, for she had forgotten the colors with which to paint them
Then, They appeared from the dark
White specters
With long, black legs
They flew with her until she forgot her loneliness
Forgot the darkness
Forgot the earth

She flew then and now and forever
In an ocean of white wings
And midnight black legs
