Our story begins in a suburb of Denver, Colorado where Natalie a 10yr old 4th grader lives. The only thing missing from Natalie's life was she had no pet at her house. This made Natalie often very sad. However, she did love her neighbor Mary's friendly Labrador puppy who always jumped on Natalie when she walked by Mary's house on her way to her school. This morning was like all others as Natalie walked by Mary's house, Beau came charging off the front porch, jumping up and down on Natalie licking her with kisses. Natalie always pretends to run away from Beau to the corner where her school bus is waiting. Beau always charges after Natalie, as Mary looks on kindly from her porch at the hilarious antics of Natalie and Beau. In the afternoon when the school bus drops off Natalie at the corner, Beau hears this, leaping off the porch and down the sidewalk making a bee line straight towards Natalie and only Natalie, jumping on her and kissing her again. Natalie thinks "Oh, how I wish that Beau was my very own dog. How happy we would be together." Natalie sends Beau off to Mary's porch and then walks to her house with tears in her eyes, knowing that Beau is firmly held back by Mary, but in his heart he wants to follow Natalie. As Mary walks back her porch she realizes that Beau really loves Natalie but Mary also loves Beau very much.
