summer nights

Floating lights hang around,
Glistening, glowing, smoothly flowing,
Dancing, prancing amongst the treetops,
Casting warmth across bare skin.

A rival warmth shakes and shivers,
Crawling to release its smoke,
Blazing through the setting darkness,
Consuming wood before it chokes.

Gathering blankets across shared shoulders,
Laughter and joy streams through the air,
Spin the bottle is at full throttle,
Only to be followed by truth or dare.

Whispers echo across the water,
Mysteries solved and secrets told,
Waves crash and clash together,
Soaking soft cotton in every fold.

Kisses stolen from his missus,
Courtship between two boys anew,
Subtle glances, twitching fingers,
A summer night romance begins to brew.

Summer nights go on forever,
Reaching through until the morn,
Families and friends celebrate together,
Till the fiery star is reborn.
