The pain of that day still haunts me; I lost her because of a choice I made. The choice of no return I’m swallowed into a gaping hole. Free falling into the eternal darkness blaming no one but myself. The day of Katie dying in the hospital scorches within my skull like a needle killing time. I left the mob from my hometown and I’ve graduated from my high school Bermen High.

I’ve lost all my connections with my friends and family because I stopped talking to them pushing them away. I’ve pushed everyone away from me locked myself into an eternal abyss to where I don’t want anything. I moved from Seattle, Washington out of the country.

I just want to get away from the life I knew and everyone around me. I currently live in a small apartment in Berlin, Germany. I still can’t forgive myself for what happened and probably never will.

The alarm clock from inside my apartment woke me up. I turned over slowly shutting off the annoying sound from it. I got up from my small mattress for I really didn’t have a bed I just had a mattress to sleep on. It’s better than nothing I suppose. I went over to the kitchen getting something to eat; it wasn’t much I just had a bowl of cereal as I usually do.

I sat in a chair near the kitchen table scooping my spoon of cereal. I didn’t like living in this apartment the walls were broken down as if termites devoured the place. Some of the pipes leaked and the smell of old wood covered the place.

This place was all I could afford but it was better than living back home in Seattle with the memoires. I finished my bowl of cereal placed it in the sink then went to go grab my coat to heading out to the city.

I walked the streets of Berlin looking down with my hands in my coat pockets going nowhere. I wasn’t paying any attention to where I was going until I started to hear footsteps running towards me. I didn’t react fast enough to look up and see what was coming.

I felt someone crashing into me and we both fell to the ground. As then I heard someone in the distance speaking German “hindert sie, hindert sie, hindert sie!” I looked to see who it was I bumped into and it was woman my age. I didn’t move I just stare at her; she had hazel eyes that made her mysterious with long burnet hair as then she quickly got up and ran off with something in her hand.

I slowly got up and looked back watching her run off into the distance. As then I turn over to the man that kept saying “hindert sie, hindert sie!” I couldn’t understand what he was saying.

Finally the man caught up to me and grabbed me by my shirt “Warum?” he said to me being angry with me. “I don’t understand get off of me!” I said to him pushing him away from me.

When he was nudged away he stood there for a moment wiping his luxury suit. He then spoke “Oh, you speak English!” he laughs “Typical American.”

“Hey don’t get smart with me asshole!” I told him “Whoa hey buddy be careful with that tone of yours” said the man as he reached in his suit coat pocket showing me his badge. I stood there looking dumb “oh...” I said softly as then he laughs.

“Yeah, I could arrest you know? Well, I suppose you should come with me now; you could be useful” said the cop; “useful why?” I asked.

We walked towards the cop’s car “well, you look like a strong fella that knows how to get a job done. Now, get in the car and come with me” he said. I got in the car on the passenger’s side as he got in the driver’s side.
