I woke up, dazed, and with a little bit of a headache. I groaned and sat up, putting my hand to my head.
"Ugh, jet lag." I moaned. I looked around. The majority of people were almost out of the plane already. I grabbed my things and maneuvered around and out of the plane.
I stopped on the last step. Cautiously, I put one foot on the ground. I grinned. I was finally home. I put my other foot on the ground and then spun around.
"I'm home!" I exclaimed. I giggled and ran back into the airport.
I hit something hard and fell. Shaking the shock off, I saw a hand offering to help me up. I cocked my head and looked up.
Black hair, blue eyes...Phil?
"PHIL!" I screamed. I jumped up and hugged him. I laughed. "I had no idea...how did you know?"
Now Phil cocked his head at me. "You sent me a text. Remember?" I pulled out my phone and looked at my texts. Turns out, the draft I had saved while the internet was slow, but it had sent sometime while I was asleep.
"I guess I did." I muttered. I put it away. "Where's Daniel?" I followed Phil back into the airport.
"He's still at the apartment. He insisted he had a surprise for you, but he.." he stopped. "Never mind, I guess." I raised an eyebrow, but then I heard his familiar voice.
"Mary! Mary, your home!" Daniel called. My jaw dropped. "Dan!" I ran at him, Phil following. We group hugged.
"I had no idea!" I pulled away, walking to the baggage claim. Dan rolled his eyes. "What, you thought we would forget you?" I shrugged. Phil laughed. "Please! Mary, you were, like, our favorite childhood memory!"
I blushed. "Aw. Well, thanks guys." I grabbed my things. We walked out, arm in arm, just like we did when we were kids.
"So, what, did you guys come in a limo? Or, no, wait, I got it. A fan gave you a ride, right?" I joked. Dan rolled his eyes. "No, we came here in our car, actually."
I looked around. "Is it a sports car?" Phil laughed, and Dan, once again, rolled his eyes. "Keep rolling your eyes, and they will get stuck back there." Dan playfully glared. "I wish they would, so then I would know what I have instead of a brain!"
I laughed. "But, seriously, where is the car?" Phil put his hands over my eyes. "Follow us, and you will see."
"Phil, that just sounds really creepy."
"Oops. Sorry."
I shook my head. I followed them for what felt like hours, then finally I snapped. "Guys, it's really hot! Please tell me we are there now!"
Phil removed his hands. "That we are." I looked, expecting a sports car, like I had guessed, but instead I was faced with the most beautiful Chevrolet. I gasped. "It's just like the one I wanted as a kid!"
They laughed. "Yeah well..." they said together. They turned and widened their eyes. "That's..." they began together. I raised an eyebrow. "Okay, so...are we heading to the apartment, or are we going to sit out here in the heat," I emphasized, "and figure out what's wrong with you two?"
They still stared at each other. I watched them, confused, but then Dan finally said, "Yeah. Yeah we'll go now." He walked to the drivers side. Phil shook his head, as if to forget something. "I got shotgun!"
I was suspicious as I got in the car, but I didn't say anything.
Okay, I didn't say anything for a while.
"What was that back there? Did I miss something? Are you guys not telling me something?" I drilled. Phil laughed, then Dan. Awkwardly.
"No. Just a weird thing. I have no idea what it was." Phil said. Dan said nothing, just stared at the crowded road ahead.
"Hmph." I grunted, not convinced. Then I sighed, as the silence was to uncomfortable. "Okayyyy...Then tell me what happened while I was gone. Fill me in, I literally want to know everything!"
They filled me in, and we laughed. A lot. We talked and laughed and enjoyed the time the entire ride there.
And, finally, I felt whole again.
