"Toby I swear to God."
That's the sound of Raven's annoyed voice, the one she gives me on a daily basis when my antisocial ass chooses not to go do something super social with people I hate. That's the funny thing, we're best friends, yet we're nothing alike. Opposites attract I guess.
"I'm sorry, but I don't want to be surrounded by drunk people that I can't stand for 6 hours. Why can't you just go with Claire or something?"
I guess I should give you some background information. My name is October, but everyone calls me Toby for short. (Y'know, like Tober, but that sounds odd so it's Toby) I know it's weird, but how else do you shorten "October"? Reasons why I hate my parents. Before you ask, "why can't you just go by your middle name?" It's because my middle name is Elliot, and I would rather be called a guy's name than that. (No offense to the Elliott's out there.)
"Ugh. Claire is annoying. She gets sick too easy and I always have to spend 3/4 of my night holding her hair back as she throws up. At least you don't drink."
Raven is a social butterfly. She goes to all the parties, and if anything is happening, she's there. She just went through a bad breakup with her boyfriend, Josh, whom she had been dating for 1 year and 3 months, so of course she's going to want to go to the next big party she can find to show that she's doing perfectly fine, even though I can tell she isn't.
"Why do you even need to go to this one?" I ask, pretending I don't know the answer, even though she knows I do.
There was a few seconds of hesitation, then she replied. "Toby, I really need this. You know I do. Please, just this once." She then begun to look me in the eyes with this desperate face, the one that gets me every time.
"Okay, fine. But only because I like you."
"Thank you, Tob!! I swear you won't regret coming."
"I better not." I conclude.
--------------------------------
We pull into a driveway of a house I know all too well. Tyson is this kid who's parents are always gone on some sort business trip so he makes the most out of that time and always hosts a party. This is his house.
We walk inside and see the usual people laughing, dancing, eating (which is what I do the whole time ;).) it's a nice house, the walls with striped wallpaper containing many different shades of brown. The couches and tables looked expensive. When I first came to this house I didn't want to move in fear I would break something. Now, no one really cares, we just avoid the rooms containing the most breakable objects.
"I don't see Josh anywhere, looks like you're one step ahead." I announce.
"Oh, he'll be here. I know he couldn't resist coming to a party full of girls knowing he's completely available now." Raven replies, adding and eye roll.
"Well you'll just have to show him how much more fun you're having without him once he gets here."
Ironically, after I say that, the door opens behind us, revealing three boys, laughing loudly. Josh, Ashton, and Noah. Ash and Noah are Josh's friends, if he's anywhere, they're with him.
"Well look who decided to show up." Josh says to Raven, loud enough so everyone in the living room can hear.
"Why wouldn't I be here?" Raven responds, raising an eyebrow.
"Well you were a wreck two days ago when I broke up with you, so I thought you'd still be like that. I guess you're saving your feelings for later so you can make a huge scene like you always do." Josh raises his voice even louder when he says this, receiving the attention of even more people.
"Oh, shut up. We both agreed to end the relationship, not you. And for your information, I'm actually having so much more fun without you." Raven crosses her arms.
Josh gives a "Whatever you say, princess." Adding a wink, and walking away with confidence.
"Ugh, he's so annoying." Raven says once he leaves.
"Well, he's gone now. Don't let him bother you. I'm going to the food bar." I respond, desperately wanting to end the conversation so I could stuff my face with cupcakes and gummy worms, pretending to be too busy eating to socialize.
