"Sabrina!" My mom called as she ripped my earbuds out of my ears. "Shut that junk off we're almost there."
I sighed and sat up in my seat taking in my surroundings. We were in the middle of nowhere. Like actually nowhere. There were no road signs, no billboards, and not even any real roads just dirt.
"Mom you can't seriously force me to go to this stupid camp." I complained. This camp was all her idea. Probably for two reasons. First she hated me it was obviously a ploy to get me out of the house. The other reason was because she wanted me to follow in her shoes and 'make something of myself' as she put it.
My mom was a one hit wonder. She released multiple songs none of which were popular or relevant at all. Then, one day, she released one song that got a small amount of popularity and suddenly she thinks she's Beyoncé.
"You know I'm not forcing you to do anything. We both know secretly you want to be like me." She said smiling.
As if I wanted to be anything like her. She lives in her own little world. She has some serious commitment issues too, not just relationships, everything. Literally everything, including me. Which brings us back to the first reason I'm getting shipped off to camp.
"As if." I rolled my eyes and jammed my headphones back into my ears. I could see her angered expression out of the corner of my eye.
I started to see a sign coming into view. It was big brown and the letters were painted sloppily in pink and blue paint. It read mrs. Allie's camp for talented boys and girls. I sighed for the millionth time.
It probably wouldn't be long before they called my mom and sent me home. I couldn't sing in my opinion, but neither could my mom. Nothing about me had talent.
My mom pulled into one of the parking spaces that were separated by logs. I decided to stay in the car. Maybe if I don't leave it then I won't have to stay here.
I guess that was a bad idea because the next thing I know my mom was ripping me out of the car by my hair. How fun.
I reluctantly went to the back of the car to gather my bags. I sat them on the ground beside me and looked around. There were a ton of other kids with their parents all of which looked rich.
I guess it shouldn't surprise me this was suppose to be a camp for rich talented kids. Although, you'd think the camp would be in better condition for the price of it.
"Hello campers!" A voice rang through a speaker attached to a pole. "Would everyone please report to the gathering hall located beside the lunch area."
We all did as told and made our way to the gathering hall. Everything here was like one large fire hazard completely made of wood.
"Good afternoon everyone! I'm very excited to welcome this years campers. By the looks of it you all are a pretty good bunch." A tall blonde lady said while smiling.
"We need to go over some rules and then I'll be announcing the cabin mates and you'll all get a welcome basket." She continued. "I'm going to go over some of the most important rules, but these and the rest will always be posted on the bulletin boards around camp."
I couldn't help but glance around while she talked. It looked like an even number of boys and girls which was good. Most of the boys looked unattractive to say the least.
"One of the most important rules is no one of the opposite gender in the others cabins after 5:00 pm. Another very important rule is no violence."
"The next rule is no electronics." I swear a girl in the corner started crying when she said this. I almost started crying myself. No music. What the heck am I suppose to do without music? I was too distracted to even listen to the rest of what the lady was saying until she got to the cabin mates.
"Okay I'm now going to announce the cabin mates. We will start with girls first. In cabin #1 will be Sammie, Christie, Jenny, and..." I tuned her out while she kept listing names. "In Cabin #8 will be Sabrina, Piper, Rosie, and Allison."
After some more people got their cabin assignments she started passing out the welcome baskets. It basically just had snacks, waters, a few camp tee shirts, and a packet describing the activities. I've got to say fencing sounded interesting to me.
I made my way to cabin #8. The door was already opened and I looked around. I was the second one here and in one of the beds in the corner stood a girl with really light long blonde hair. She was wearing a sun dress and had a hint of sun burn on her cheeks and arms.
I walked over to the bed in the back right corner. I was thankful that they were beds and not bunks. The room had four beds in all the corners of the cabin. Each was an elevated bed with a desk underneath. Beside each of the beds was a cubby for shoes, clothes, and books. Between my bed and the blonde girls was a door to what I presumed the bathroom.
The whole place smelled of wood. I started unpacking. I placed my shoes and clothes in the cubby. I then put some of my magazines and my notebooks on the desk.
I realized I forgot one of my bags in the car so I ran back to get it. Luckily my mom was still here.
"I'll miss you Sabrina.. I know you don't think I will, but I will." She said smiling. I've got to admit I hate her sometimes but she is my mom. I quickly hugged her and grabbed my other bag and handed my mom my phone.
"Bye mom." I said before walking away.
I walked back into the cabin and the rest of the girls had made it and the blonde girl and a new girl were arguing.
"Get your trash out of this space now!" The new girl screamed at the blonde girl.
"What's going on?" I asked the girl that wasn't involved.
"They're fighting over that bed." She said rolling her eyes at them. "It's very immature plus she had it first."
"I'm Sabrina." I said reaching my hand out for her to shake.
"Piper." She said smacking my hand instead of shaking it. That was weird.
I walked back over to my bed and continued to unpack. When I was finally finished I grabbed the activity book and sat at my desk.
That's when I heard a thud and turned my chair around. The blonde girl was crying as the other girl threw her stuff on the ground as she stepped on it.
If there's one thing I hate more than this camp it's the people. I was starting to get really mad at that girl.
"Leave her alone." I said. Suddenly she looked up at me.
"Mind your own business." She snapped. It took me everything not to get up and rip her hair out right then. I gritted my teeth and stood up. I calmly walked over and started picking up the blonde girls things and putting them back.
"Girls what's going on?" A woman said. She was standing in the doorway wearing a counselor tag on her shirt.
"She came in and started throwing my stuff all over the floor." The blonde girl said.
"What're your names?" She asked.
"I'm Rosie." The blonde said.
"Allison." The other girl said.
"Well girls one of the rules here is no damaging other campers property and if she was there first that's her bed not yours so please move to this empty bed." The lady said. "By the way my name is Jan I'll be your cabin counselor."
Jan left shortly after Allison finally shut up and started unpacking. I sighed again and realized just how long this summer was going to be.
"You'll regret ruining my stuff Allison." Rosie half whispered.
"Excuse me is that a threat." Allison said.
"No. It's a promise." Rosie said.
