I hesitantly followed Senji into the place he called G ward. It would be a lie to say that I felt safe. Even with Senji by my side this place was completely foreign and my flight instinct was screaming run.
We climbed up many flights of stairs before finally walking out of a door and into a hallway that resembled a hotel hallway. He walked to one room and opened the door.
It was a small room with little decoration. It had a neutral color scheme of gray brown black and coper.
Minatsuki laid lazily on her back on the bed reading a magazine. She looked up and surveyed my arm.
"You'll need stitches, come here." she stated lazily.
She rolled over onto her stomach and grabbed a small box out from under the bed. She sat up and opened the box. Senji pushed me forward and Minatsuki reached out and grabbed my arm. I winced as fresh blood spilled from my cut.
She threaded a needle after rubbing a damp cloth on my arm. What ever was on it stung and I winced. She went to stick the needle into my arm and I cried out.
"Aren't you gonna numb it or something!?" I gasped.
"Sorry, not in the box," she shrugged.
"Are you even a doctor!?" I grimaced as she slid the needle in my arm again and pulled the thread through.
"I'm a veterinarian," she said pulling the thread tight almost making me cry out.
"It helps if you bite down on something." Senji instructed.
I bit the cuff on my denim jacket and thanked it for the distraction from the pain in my arm though I was sure my teeth would be sore later.
Minatsuki bit the thread and packed up her first aid kit before covering my stitches with gauze.
There was static over the intercom followed by a gruff mecanical like voice. "All new Deadmen are to report to the clinic for your collars. You may go by will or we will take you by force. The latter is not a wise choice. Report there within five minutes and receive a free piece of candy. That is all." The static continued for a second before the line went dead.
Everything was still and quiet for a moment before doors slammed and screaming followed in the hallway.
"Well we shouldn't be late," Minatsuki sighed. "Come on Crow, lets get it over with," she sighed standing and stretching.
"Stay close to us kid," Senji warned.
I nodded and Senji opened the door. Minatsuki took hold of my arm and rushed out of the door.
There was a crowd of people rushing to get to where ever we were going. I had no idea what this collar entailed or why we were all fighting for candy but I wasn't looking forward to it.
Someone broke out their branch of sin and blood flew everywhere. Minatsuki weaved me through the crowds and to a small clinic type space with some creepy instruments.
Lying everywhere were full metallic rings. Two needles faced in toward the middle of the ring. For some reason I didn't what to know what they were for.
A few people stood in front of carts full of these rings. One of the prisoners stepped up to one of the people in front of the carts. The person by the cart carefully broke the ring and reconnected it around the prisoner's neck. The two needles burried themselves deep into the prisoner's neck.
I cringed as the numbers began to dwindle. Soon it was Minatsuki's turn and she received her collar unflinching. Then it was my turn. I hesitantly approached a female in a lab coat. She curiously eyed me through thick lenses.
"Well aren't you a special specimen," she grinned. A chill danced up my spine and a nervous sweat beaded on my forehead and neck.
The woman's cold hands wound around my neck and clicked the collar into place. I barely felt the needles sink into my neck thanks to my adrenaline.
The woman handed me a small wrapped thing and pushed me out of the way to deal with the next person.
I crashed into someone and quickly turned to apologize. The person I had bumped into was a Japanese man with sandy hair and gray eyes.
He looked at me as if he was startled. He blinked a few times before looking ahead.
"Oh yeah, don't be," he cleared his throat before passing me and getting his collar.
I saw right before the collar was clicked into place that he had scars on the back of his neck. Two puncture scars on the back of his neck. He had had a collar before.
"Sir!" I called.
He stepped away from the woman and walked past me.
"Hey asshole! I'm talking to you!"
He turned and looked at me again. He seemed to remember something and he grabbed my arm.
"Hey! Let go of me!" I hissed trying to jerk away.
He ignored my demands and pulled me out of the makeshift clinic.
