The Enchanted Forest:
The Evil Queen's threat of a terrible curse has all corners of the land buzzing. Royals were getting their affairs in order, common folk held their children tighter, and lovers spent more time together.
In a land to the east beyond a southern mountain range lay the Empire of Wa, home of the great Dragon Warrior. Prince John rode for an imperial encampment at the foot of these mountains. His steed galloped as fast as possible to arrive before sun down. If he intended to protect the realm from Regina's curse then he would need someone like the Dragon Warrior by his side.
He stopped before a large wooden gate guarded by two sentries. Above in a lookout tower was a man beating a drum to alert the camp of a visitor. His chest heaved to the rhythm of the beat.
Without saying a word, the gates opened and John trotted through on his horse. Standing just beyond the gates was an old friend and a few onlookers. The camp was bustling on the inside as soldiers and servants moved about their tasks. John strode right up to the man waiting for him.
"Prince John of Nottingham," said his friend, "I am honored by your visit."
He gave him a respectful bow.
"General Shang," John said as he dismounted his horse and bowed in return.
"It has been too long," said Shang.
John took note of all his features. Shang's dark black hair had grown longer since the last time they were together. His tan face looked younger now that the weathered look of battle had been washed from him.
"Indeed it has," answered John, clapping a hand on his friend's shoulder.
"How have things been since we last fought together in the Ogre wars?"
"The Empire is safe now," said Shang.
"How is she?" John inquired, almost in a whisper.
"The Dragon Warrior?" Shang asked in repsonse, "She's in there." He motioned to the doorway, "Been training every day since she returned from her quest to slay the Yaoguai."
John opened the door to a dojo with no roof. Inside he saw a masked warrior, making sweeping motions with a sword and practicing their form and footing. The soldier noticed John's presence but did not say anything.
"Your form is wrong," John teased with a smirk on his face. He loosed his cape from his shoulders and approached a rack with bo staffs mounted on them. Removing two, he tossed one to the Dragon Warrior.
The two of them begin to spar, each making stunning strikes and twirls as they danced with each other. The air filled with the sound of wood clashing as their bo staffs made contact. The Dragon Warrior turned, swinging the bo staff with a sweeping motion that knocked John clean off his feet.
