♕ Chapter Two ♕ - Knock Knock...

"What about over there?" I suggested, pointing to a cozy corner with a large window that let in plenty of natural light.

Milo tilted his head, considering it for a moment. "Hmm... maybe. But it's too close to the entrance. People are constantly coming and going. It could be distracting."

I bit back a smile, amused by his determination. "Okay, how about that table near the back? It's pretty quiet, and it's far from any doors."

He glanced over, squinting as if assessing every detail. "Too close to the air vent. It'll get chilly."

I let out a small sigh, knowing this could take a while. "Milo, it's just a seat. We're not buying a house."

He gave me a sideways glance, his expression completely serious. "Riley, the right environment is crucial for optimal concentration. You wouldn't understand—it's a physics thing."

I rolled my eyes but couldn't help chuckling at his persistence. "Fine, fine. Lead the way, then, Mr. Optimal Concentration."

After a few more minutes of intense deliberation, Milo finally settled on a spot that met his high standards—a table tucked away in the far corner, with just enough sunlight filtering through the windows and comfortably distant from any potential disturbances.

"Perfect," he declared, setting his bag down with a satisfied nod.

I sat across from him, shaking my head in amusement. "I'm glad we survived the selection process."

Milo grinned, already pulling out his notebook and a stack of research papers. "You know me—I take my library seating very seriously."

"I can tell," I teased, flipping open my laptop to start on my paper. Despite the small delay, I was glad we were here. It was in these quiet moments, surrounded by books and the steady rhythm of studying, that I found a sense of calm. And with Milo's determined focus right across from me, I knew we'd both get plenty of work done.

As I typed away, trying to make progress on my paper, the warmth of the library and the soft rustling of pages around me started to lull me into a comfortable drowsiness. I tried to fight it off, but before I knew it, my eyelids grew heavy. My phone buzzed on the table, making my eyes shoot open, the screen lighting up with Maya's name. I quickly grabbed it, glancing at Milo, who was deeply engrossed in his notes, before swiping to answer.

"Hey, Maya," I said, keeping my voice low to avoid disturbing the quiet library atmosphere.

"Riley, where are you?" Maya's voice came through the line, sounding slightly impatient but with a familiar edge of playfulness. "I'm with Farkle, and we were wondering if you're ever going to join the land of the living today."

I chuckled softly, leaning back in my chair. "I'm at the library with Milo. We've been here for a while, but I almost fell asleep before you called."

"Fell asleep?" Maya repeated, the incredulity in her tone making me smile. "That doesn't sound like you, Riles. Everything okay?"

"Yeah, just tired," I admitted, glancing over at Milo, who was still in his own world, pencil moving rapidly across the paper. "What are you and Farkle up to?"

"We were thinking of grabbing lunch, are you hungry?" Maya asked, her voice brightening at the mention of food.

I hesitated for a second, considering the work I still had to do, but the thought of spending some time with Maya and Farkle was too tempting. Besides, I could use a break. "That sounds great. Wanna join me and Milo?"

"Sure. You guys want us to pick up anything on our way or you wanna go somewhere and eat? We're not far," Maya suggested.

"We can all go together," I agreed.
