chapter two

"Are you crazy?!" Ann shrieks as I close the door behind me.

"What is this note about?" I say, holding the note up. I'm panting, not able to catch my breath.

She looks at the piece of notebook paper and then looks down at her hands. She doesn't say a word.

"Ann, please don't-"

"I'm not Ann," She mumbles.

"Then who-"

"Ann is my sister," The girl clarifies, looking up at me. "My name is Olive. Ann killed herself three months ago. And that's all she left."

"W...what?" Is all I say, confused and dumbfounded and shocked. I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach.

Olive's face is blank. "Driver, pull over." She demands. The taxi driver grunts but does as she says. "Get out." Olive orders me.

"But.. What... I..." I stumble, not knowing what to say. What to do.

"Please." Olive pleads, reaching across me and opening the door.

Slowly, I stumble out, holding the note shakily. Without another word, Olive slams the door shut and the car leaves.

"Dude, what the hell was that?" Cameron asks as soon as I get back. After being yelled at by security and our manager, I'm back by the boys, taking pictures and smiling at cameras.

I just shake my head, the note heavy in my pocket. I don't know what I feel. I never knew her, but I feel like I lost her. Like it's my fault. My lip trembles as I think about her swallowing pills after writing this letter addressed to me... I shake my head and pull myself together. This is not the time.

After about two hours and millions of pictures later, it's time to leave. We say another massive goodbye and then take the elevator up to the tenth floor where our hotel suite is.

"So why did you run off like that?" Cameron asks again, not letting it go.

"This girl forgot her phone." I shrug, putting on a straight face. I don't know why, but I can't show the boys the note. I don't know what they would think.

"Do you guys still want to go to that beach bonfire tonight?" Nash asks, and everyone seems to believe the lie as they move to the next subject easily. Good.

"Well duh," Taylor says, "Aren't there going to be lots of chicks?"

Carter rolls his eyes. "Mahogany said so. It's all of her friends there," Nash says.

I grab my phone as they talk, annoyed with where the conversation was going. I scroll through my mentions, a habit I do when I am bored.

The elevator doors click open and we pile out, all at the same time.

After we change into appropriate clothes, we leave the hotel. There are still girls taking pictures everywhere, but I didn't really mind it.

The carride there is full of talking from everyone else. I just stare down at my phone, wishing I knew Ann's last name. I soon give up and type in the Google search bar: Ann of Southern California suicide three months ago.

Surprisingly, this worked. I got links to the local newspapers, and court cases. Apparently there was a lot more to it then just her suicide.

I click one of the links and before it can load the car stops and were all piling out, into the beach. I sigh, frustrated as I shove my phone in my pocket. It'll have to wait.

"Hey guys," Mahogany greets as we walk toward her and her group of friends. There is about twenty of them. Behind then, the sun is setting, looking like it's sitting on the ocean. "This is Anthony, Margie, Anna, Tessa, Alexa, Mary, Brody, Jake, Jason, Dan,....."

I tune her out, my body going cold as I see who is standing behind the group of people. Her back is to us as she stands in front of the raging fire, this time wearing a white sundress and no shoes. Her black hair is tyed up into a ponytail.

Discreetly, I walk past the group of people and directly behind her. Tapping her on the shoulder, I ask, "Olive?"
