Intro

Her footsteps crunched against the earth in the endless vision of multicolored trees ahead of her. The way they were so beautifully sprouted against one another was almost enough to forget what was surrounding her. These woods she was travelling in were just a bit too quiet, quiet enough to cause that strange uneasy feeling in the deepest pit of your stomach. The earth was still spinning and lively, but lively with the undead. The girl walking didn't need a name, a face, a soul. All she needed was the life she had luckily kept in her grasp, for death was surrounding her in every direction. As her ears caught the sound of the far away hum that struck her deep in her heart, she knew that soon, she wouldn't be alone anymore. However this company isn't one to be appreciated. It's one to fear.
This nameless girl was stuck in the world of apocalypse. The world of the walking dead.

"Hurry up! Please, we have to hurry!" Alice's mother’s cry out towards her family ringed throughout their house, but wasn't actually heard. In the living room, the TV was echoing out a warning alert, stating the immediate lock down of everyone in Katy, Texas. "Widespread epidemic is taking over the south; Everyone stay indoors and please be safe." Standing in front of the screen, Alice peered at the TV, not quite hearing her mother's plea for her eyes were locked in sync with the flashing of images. The pictures appearing on screen reflected against Alice’s flushed, pale skin, lighting up the now chaotic living room that was once kept so neat. The belongings of the family were scattered across the ground, over turned, and looked as though someone came in and vandalized their home. Alice watched the screen in terror as images flashed from the news warning, showing what everyone least expected. People running, being chased by mutated humans. They all looked the same besides the walk and nature behind their movements. It was hard at first to identify, however the longer Alice looked, the more death appeared on screen. Her hand fluttered to her mouth to stifle a sob as her frantic mother came running into the living room, looking just as terrified.

“Alice, honey, please stop watching it. You need to pack. We need to go, please, let's just go..” her mother's words faded out into the background as her brown eyes reached the screen. The two of them, for a moment, shared the same look. One of terror for the future and present that they are going to experience. One of realization that their entire world has now been shattered into so many unfixable pieces. Alice's mother swept her curls out of her face and into a shaky pony tail, trying to get out of the sense of dread that has been bestowed upon her. “Alice, honey. We need to go. We can't end up like them so please just grab a bag and let's go.” Her mother moved carefully and slow to get in front of Alice, knowing that this was a sticky situation. As her hand moved to touch Alice's cheek, Alice jerked away, finally unlocking eyes with the screen and turning her focus onto her mother. “Yes, okay, pack. I got it..” her words came out as a whisper before she dropped eye contact and spun around, looking at the disaster of a living room. As the mother stepped away and left, Alice's eyes roamed the living room for anything to well, aid their living. Finding nothing useful amongst the overturned couch and collectable items gathered over the years, her slow thoughts finally told her to actually go grab a bag from her room. Each movement felt patronizingly slow as she descended out of the living room and into the hallway towards her bedroom.

Alice passed each room, running a finger gently across the walls of her home. Each etch in the housing fueled her thoughts of never being able to come back home. Anna's room. Cody's room. Mom and dad's room. My room. Each and every room was recorded into Alice's memory, as if the moment she stepped out the house, they would forever be gone. Finally she reached out for her doorknob, turning the door to open. Flocking on the light, Alice stopped for a moment to savor the last she'd ever see the room that she had been living in for the past seven years, decorated and loaded with everything she held dear. Her thoughts spiralled with what she needed, for everything in here held some value to her. Alice's eyes ran over the blue walls, littered with clouds she once painted not too long ago. Her bed was neatly made, her sheets tucked in perfectly along with the symmetry of her pillows, biggest in the middle followed by the smallest on either side. She could hear her mother's fussing over the littlest thing wrong with her beds order, which normally would bring a frown to her face. Now she wishes that the nagging could last forever instead of the nightmare they awoke to.
