"Under false charges." I corrected. "Basically he went to hunt down the guy who betrayed my parents. But then this guy made an explosion which killed twelve muggles, he cut off his finger and fled to the sewers as a rat, everybody thought he was dead. Sirius was given the blame."

Lacey made a confused face. "And I thought normal police were stupid." she snorted. "So they thought that Sirius killed a guy so hard that only a finger was left? I mean geez, that's not even possible."

"You should get a job in the ministry, I bet you'd get some logic into them." I said lightly. It was my not-so-subtle way of asking whether she was going to stay in this world.

"I might just get a waitress job or something, anywhere that'll take a squib."

Two cracks sounded through the room, and we looked around. The two Weasley twins, Fred and George were stood in the room with identical grins.

"Maybe you can work for us, eh?" said Fred with a grin.

"What, you guys have a shop?" Lacey asked with a raised eyebrow.

"We will." George corrected. "All right, Rory?"

"So-so." I shrugged. "So I guess you guys got your apparating licences."

"Well we didn't jump through the floor." Fred rolled his eyes. "Now, come on!"

"What?" hissed Lacey. "My sister is asleep, if you didn't already see!"

"Something's up with Harry." George blurted out.

My head snapped up in shock. "What's wrong with him? Is he okay?"

"We don't know." Fred said grimly. "We were heading down for dinner, but mum told us there was a bloody meeting. But we heard Sirius say something about Harry."

"So what, are we eavesdropping?" Lacey asked.

George grinned. "Even better. Come on, we're all meeting on the stairs."

He grabbed onto my arm, and Fred grabbed Lacey's. With a short twisting feeling, we apparated from the room and ended up on the main staircase.

Gennie, Ron, Ginny and Hermione were huddled on the stairs, fleshy pieces of string in their hands. Bowls of food were scattered on the floor, clearly collected after they were forced to leave the kitchen.

"Rory!" Hermione and Ron cried together. Hermione threw herself at me, nearly knocking me down the stairs.

"Oh Rory, you're alright!" Hermione sighed in relief. "We thought you'd gotten yourself killed until Gennie came back! You--"

"Easy there, Hermione." Ron grinned. He had grown a heap since I'd last seen him. I felt like the short one for a change, which was nice. "I'm sure she wants to find out what's up with Harry."

Hermione pulled away. "Right, yes."

"Yes, simmer down everyone." Fred said, clapping his hands together. "Now, everybody grab an extendable ear."

Lacey and I shared identical looks of confusion, but Ginny passed us each fleshy pieces of string. There were strange shaped ears on the other end.

"We can overhear conversations with them." Ginny explained. "The twins invented them."

"I like you guys." Lacey decided. "So, shall we get listening?"

George nodded. We placed the ears by our own, and lowered the strings down the stair railing. Holding our breaths, we allowed the strings to dangle outside the door, until fragments of sound came through.
