Chapter 6 : Hope is always on the corner

Hasty reverberation of the cold stream, plays in melody as I march upstream.
It is like it went in sync with the cricket's serenade, but for me all seemed equivalent to an indistinguishable lullaby.
As far as I can see up high, the sky starts merge with the tall trees as if the orange sky smeared with the black of shadows

I pass a warm sigh as I tasted the fall of night
The place was filled with the thick fragrance of nature as the cold tickle my nose
As I pass a few trees, I started to get used to navigating through a forest, treading the snow and all.
But it was the unforgiving winds that made me worried, because as gloom of dusk arrives, so to will the bitter cold.
I looked passed my back
It was a long trip up huh...
The bird was my only companion I guess
I became quite attached to this fella huh?
I was pretty short, and I had an appearance of a kid from grade 1
Maybe if a grown man and me went side by side, I guess I'll be around the waist
Having him on my head does make me taller anyway, hehe

Hearing that the owl went down to my shoulder as I heard a hoo to my left ear

I looked at it's body to figure out a good name

Then it snuggled my cheek and with a happy hoo, it hoped back to its usual spot.

I scoffed at that thought and continued hiking
As I took another 10 meters things starts to change, when finally I glimmer of light was seen between the trees.
It was a city trenched at the snow which I saw above the hill side!
It was about another 2 kilometer though, as it was a path going downhill before the city gates
I quickly ran towards it

It was getting dark fast and I can even hear some wolf's howl
Going through another night outside was already a no-no
Maybe out of desperation, because I can feel the cold seeping in.
I had two choices, either keep on going and risk dying because of Hypothermia or camp out to pass the night.
But it seems that the latter wasn't going to be a good idea
I can feel the air pressure dropping and a wind storm was on its way
I can hear the thunder from afar and see distant stokes of lighting in the distance
I checked the pine cones nearby
It's all opened up, it's a definite truth!
I need to get there fast

Hours later***

Crunch* crunch* crunch*
The untouched snow became my death trial
It was already 6:40-ish and I was already shivering uncontrollably
The winds were high and the light was dim
I kept on walking toward
After a long while I saw chopped trees and broken branches
It seems I'm in civilization's reach of territory
Thankfully, the snow thins out due to near fire lamps hung high in the trees
But the cold was not over yet
I need to keep moving
The storm was already here since the noticing and I still need another kilometers way

Albino noticed my shivering and spreads his wings to cover the snow's fall
My movements became more and more sluggish
But hard work pays off

It was time as I caught up with a supposedly official-ish road
Well it was better than nothing though
The path lead to the city as I see travelers rushing in the city walls
