A Supermarket in West Berlin
Sausages! Sausages! There's a whole floor of Sausages!
Bratwursts, breakfast links, Spanish and Italian
A smorgasbord of finely cased meats
Ripening my salivating taste buds
This is just the sixth floor!
So many more to explore
Fruits and vegetables
Breads and cheeses
Beer and Wine
With names I can't pronounce
From countries I've never heard of
All in front of me
My olfactory overloaded
Teasing my ever hungry stomach
With the smells of endlessly impossible culinary cuisine
Each floor a journey of discovery
It's a world of edible delights
Telling the story of human history
All of it,
Under one roof
Thousands of years of scientific achievements
Centuries of political upheaval
The rich past making a full present
Full of infinite choices
Finally answering the most important question of all
What shall I have for dinner tonight?
