Fadekit awoke to the sound of rustling leaves somewhere above her. She could hear her mother Puddlestep snoring gently and felt the steady rise and fall of her flank. Slowly, she settled back down against her mother's soft belly fur and sighed, inhaling her sweet milky scent. I wonder what the world looks like. Fadekit thought, slowly drifting back into sleep.

Waking up, Fadekit mewled in protest as her mother groomed her pelt. "Open your eyes my love." She murmured in between licks. "The world is quite a beautiful place."

Summoning the courage that she had been saving up for the past few sunrises, she pulled her eyelids up, and looked around. She turned to look at her mother. Fadekit sat for a moment, astounded by her mother's beauty. Her mother had long, soft white and orange tabby fur. Puddlestep gazed down at her daughter, the light of dawn glowing through the spaces in the reeds. Twisting her neck around, Fadekit examined her pelt. Do I look like her?  When she looked, she saw a brown and white tabby body reflecting the sunlight. No she thought as she turned back to her mother.

As if reading her mind, Puddlestep sympathizes "You're beautiful the way you are." Fadekit scampers out of the nursery and barrels headfirst into something hard. Lying stunned for a few heartbeats, she shakes herself off and rubbing her muzzle, she looks at what the object was. Gazing down at her, was a cat. A huge pure white tom with one black paw and ice blue eyes.

"You must be Puddlestep's kit. I'm Whitepool, what's your name?" Bouncing up and down in excitement she said "My name is Fadekit! What color are my eyes?" She ran in small circles around Whitepool, and then stops, stretching her eyes wide open so he can see them better, and he laughed. "They're green." he purred, watching the excited kit.

"I'm going to be the best warrior that RiverClan has ever seen!" She yowls, bouncing around the warrior. "If you're anything like your mother, I'm sure you will." His eyes darken breifly with sadness and then he flashes her a smile. ""You will be a great warrior." he says. This gives Fadekit a flare of hope, and she rockets over to the nursurey to tell her mother.

She noses her way into the nursery, and prods her mother with a white paw. "Puddlestep! One of the warriors says I'll be good one too! He says I'll turn out just as good as you!" Her mother grunted and rolled over to face her kit. "Of course you will my love! They will never doubt your loyalty as they did mine." Fadekit prances around her mother happily. "Is Whitepool my father?"

She feels her mother tense beside her and questions race through her like tiny bullets, making her head spin. Was it what I said? Am I not supposed to ask questions like that? Is he mean? Is he sick?  She shakes her head to clear it and sends a silent prayer to StarClan that her mother is not upset with her, and it is swiftly answered by a lick on the head from her mother.

"No love. Your father was a fine cat dear. He just... wasn't the right one." She gazes sadly through the reeds at Whitepool. "Don't let anyone tell you who to be or what you can do. You have no limits my love, and know that you will be a wonderful and loyal warrior, no matter what."

"Of course I will Puddlestep." she replies. "Wait... why would they think I'm not loyal?" Her mother hesitates. "It would all be from my choices and mistakes. If they would have, it would've been because of my mistakes. Your father..." She pauses giving her daughter another lick on the head. "Your father is Dustleap of WindClan."
