*Caitlyn's POV*
"She's looking at you, C." I heard a voice whisper-shout at me.
My eyes snap away from the novel in my hands to my best friend, Taylor. He has a smirk on his lips, looking towards the front desk again, which was behind me. He had a look of hope, and amusement in his eyes.
"She's probably just looking at someone else." I murmur under my breath, noticing my heart is starting to race. Why would someone like Ash be looking at someone like me?
Taylor scoffed, and looked at the empty tables around us. "She's looking at you, look back, make eye contact, don't be awkward." He hurriedly responded in a hushed voice.
I turned , letting me peek over my shoulder slightly.
My breath hitched and I froze. My cheeks instantly turned a dark shade of red. My eyes widened a little.
Our eyes locked for .2 seconds, and she looked away. Damn.
Ash. She was the most beautiful person that I've ever laid eyes on. I couldn't walk in the same room as her without blushing. And, oh god, her smile. I would pay millions to see it. She made me squirm just by hearing her voice.
But I was just a short, awkward, clumsy girl that was in love with her.
I quickly turn back around, face flushed.
"You have to go talk to her!" Taylor suddenly said after laughing at my awkward state.
"There is no way in hell! I'll just embarrass myself, I can't even English right when I'm 10 feet away from her!" I argue, biting my lower lip nervously.
"Oh come on, it won't be that hard! Just say a little pickup line or something like that, or a joke!" He pleads, clasping his hands together and giving me the puppy dog eyes.
I groan quietly, knowing that he wouldn't leave me alone until I at least talked to her and said hello. How hard can one joke be?
I got up, grabbing the book I wanted and walked up to the desk.
My cheeks heated up again, and I fumbled with my fingers after laying the book on the desk. "I-I'd like to check this out please." I murmur quickly, looking down and not making eye contact as I laid my library card on the desk.
"Alrighty, Caitlyn." Ash responded, making my knees feel weak. I scratched my upper arm and looked up, keeping my eyes on her nose.
A joke, come on Caitlyn. Think of a damn joke, what's the last joke you heard?
"Hey, uhm..are you made of Copper and Tellurium? Because you're CuTe." I blurt out, my eyes widening as I realize what I said. (A/n Nerd joke, sorry)
*Ash's POV*
Once again I had found myself staring at her, one of the most gorgeous woman I've had the pleasure to meet and by far the most attractive in our town.
Caitlyn often came to the library with a friend of hers, I didn't know his name but I really didn't care, she was what I focused my attention on.
Before I knew it, our gazes met and I froze, feeling dread in the pit of my stomach. What if she thinks I'm a creep for staring at her...? I thought to myself while quickly averting my gaze and attempting to look busy.
A few minutes pass by and I had my nose in a book, reading the cover to find out what it was about. I heard a familiar voice and quickly lifted my head, greeted by a gorgeous face.
"Alrighty Caitlyn" I responded and checked out the book under her name, stamping the date it was due back on the little card in the cover. I handed the book back and gazed into her eyes as she continued to speak.
"What..?" I asked with a seemingly confused expression, which wasn't anything new. I stayed quiet for a long moment and stared off in thought, trying to figure out Caitlyn's joke.
"Ooooooh, I understand now...Ha.." a light blush found it's way onto my cheeks, both from embarrassment and from the flirty joke.
"You must forgive my stupidity..." I laughed nervously and ran my fingers through my hair, as I often did when I felt awkward, nervous, or embarrassed. As a consequence, my hair was styled in a messy but attractive way.
"Is there anything else I can help you with today?" I asked her with a faint smile, knowing that Caitlyn was shy, I didn't want to scare the girl away.
A darker blush covered Caitlyn's cheeks, and her eyes went to her hands. "N-No t-thanks." She grabbed the book and card, and walked away, grabbing Taylor's arm and rushing out the door.
