A Little Surprise

I didn't speak to anyone about what happened. I didn't feel that it was necessary to tell anyone about my deepest secret. Not even Kealsie.

She actually wasn't at school for the past week so I finally broke up the courage to ask why.

I've showered for about an hour, which is about a half hour more than usual. I fluffed my hair until I was satisfied with how it looked then I got dressed.

Instead of wearing my usual outfit, faded jeans and graphic t-shirt, I wore a pair of new jeans and a plaid button-up. At least it was something nicer than usual.

"Where do you think you're going, young man?" my mother appeared.

"Just to see Kealsie." I replied with a hint of regret. Now that I've said that, she won't leave me alone.

"Hm. Interesting." she walked out a couple steps. "Just be back by dinner time, alright?"

"Okay." we both smiled and she left the room. I guess I was wrong.

I scurried out the door before I could say I was actually leaving. Mother will know I've gone soon anyways.

As I was nervously knocking on the door I took a deep breath, letting off the anxious tone. It didn't last long until the tone was back.

A few seconds later, a little girl, about the age of six, answered the door. "Is Kealsie home?" I said in my sweetest tone. I really didn't want to scare someone, especially a six year old. Yes, it's happened.

"Mada!" she screamed, and said something in French. I stood my ground, even more anxious.

"Isaac.." I heard Kealsie whisper. And then she appeared at the door.

She wasn't how I expected. Instead of her flawless face, it was bruised along the left side. I didn't want to think about how bad the rest of her body might be, only that I'm glad she's still breathing. "What happened?"

"Listen," she said. "we need to talk. Just not here." she stepped back in her house, gesturing me to follow.

Now we were sitting in her room. I was admiring the French decor, a bed with neatly ironed, tan sheets, and a matching dresser. There were tons of other things as well, but I wasn't going to bore you with the details. Almost everything was either tan, or beige.

"Let me start off with the fact that I can't see you anymore." Kealsie stated. "And before you say anything, it isn't you. It's actually my boyfriend." I didn't know what to say at this point. I tried to stare at the wooden floor, trying to comprehend all the hurtful words. "He thinks you're a threat to us."

"Thinks? Are you sure he doesn't assume?" I asked, looking at her because I gave up on trying to be strong.

"He doesn't know you, Isaac." her voice stayed calm.

Although, I seemed to raise mine. "Look at the bruises on your face Kealsie!" I held back the tears that were stinging my eyes. "That can't just be thinking." My voice, almost a whisper. "It just can't." Tears didn't sting anymore, they were hot on my face.

"You didn't let me finish." she said, her voice soft and elegant. "I told him that I wanted you."

Time stopped. Or it was going really slow. Right now, I couldn't tell.

"Kealsie," a nice lady walked in. I'm assuming it was her mother. "There's another guy here to see you." my heart dropped.

"You should stay here." Kealsie turned to me. "It'll be fine, just don't leave this room." I nodded.

"Do you  want to see something cool?" I asked Kealsie just a little after the incident at her house.

I didn't see anything, nor did Kealsie want to talk about it. At one point I heard yelling and the door slamming, but that was the end of it.

We just got done eating supper at my house, and we were sitting around.

"Sure." she smiled.

"Follow me." We both got up, me in the lead by a couple steps.

I stopped in the room at the end of the hall. That empty room, filled with amazing dreams.

"Do you remember the room I didn't show you before?" she nodded. "Well, I think it's time for me to show you. It's a wonderful world."

"What do you-"

"You'll see." I interrupted her, then opened the door to what is the amazing world I live in. "Before you say anything else, press that button." I pointed to the button standing on the pandemonium. She did.

The entire room transformed into this forest filled with nature. I looked around with amazement.

Somehow I knew she'd dream of something like this, she seems like the person to love nature. "What is this place?" she asked, amazed at the roses growing on the trees.

"Your dreams, made into reality." I smiled at her.
