I eventually changed and walked over to my closet again. I reached for the top shelf to grab a new pair of Vans. I spent the whole summer working at my father's yard service. I asked if my dad needed an extra hand and he gave me a job right away.
I worked my ass off earning all that money. I bought an entirely new wardrobe.
I remember everyone used to pick on me for the clothing I would wear to school. I would always change out from the same three pairs of pants. Plus, my older brother's hand me downs, and to top it all off with the shirt tucked in as an extra piece of accessory, purple checkered suspenders.
Shaking my head at the memory, I then walked back over to my desk that was perfectly aligned to next to my bed; I picked up my phone that had just notified me that I had received a message from someone. Typing in the password to my phone, I went to the messenger app and opened up a chat from a person who's name I haven't seen or heard of in a while.
Cris/Daddy <3
6:08 a.m.
Hey man can't wait to see you later, it's been a while. Same place and time like always?
I read the message over and over again and just stared at my screen. I haven't seen him since the last day of Freshman year. We had our summer planned out getting in shape together, getting a job with my dad, and just having fun. The funny thing is that, it never happened. Once we stepped foot out those front doors, we never crossed paths. I mean, that is until he comes out of nowhere with this crap.
He's your only friend you don't want it to be like seventh grade again, do you? A voice in the back of my head whispered to me.
I snapped out of it and started to reply.
Yeah, for sure man!! It has been a while, let's hope for the best year ever. See you in 10!
With that, I locked my phone and headed down stairs where the smell of scrambled eggs and ham reached my nose, making my mouth water.
Entering the kitchen, my younger siblings were already seated and eating rather rapidly, as if they haven't ate in the past 24 hours.
"Mijo, que guapo! Look at you, my little boy you look so handsome." My mom squealed in excitement as she ran towards me to give me a hug. She squeezed the living daylights out of me, making it impossible to breathe.
"Mami, ahorita no por favor! C'mon not right now, I want to eat too!" I said whining, making it obvious I didn't want the morning to start with her getting all emotional.
"Ok pues, come tu comida se te va hacer fria. Go eat then, it's going to get cold, mijo." She said in a commanding, yet playful tone.
I sat down and started digging in to my food; that is until my twin brother, Danny, decided to ask me the dumbest question ever.
Here we go again.
"So, Carter, is that new look gonna get you all the muchachitas?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows at me.
I rolled my eyes, "What does it look like? Pendejo." I muttered under my breathe.
"Hey ninos, no sean groseros! Don't be mean to each other!" My mom said, eyeing the both of us.
I stood up and put my plate in the sink and walked back upstairs to retrieve my back pack. I ran back downstairs and was almost out the door until my mom yelled, "Adonde vas? Que no te vas a llevar a tu hermanos contigo? You can't leave without your siblings; plus they don't have a ride!"
