Beep beep beep.
A small hand shot out from under the sheets and felt for the object that ruined the girl's sleep. Finally locating the offending object, she attempted to hit the off button, but missed several times before removing the sheets to properly see what the hell she was doing. Laura groaned and picked up her phone, reading what was on the screen. She groaned even louder when she saw that today she was supposed to be meeting with Danny in half an hour. Disentangling herself from the sheet , she shot out of bed and headed straight to the bathroom. "Oh crap" Laura muttered while looking in the mirror. Her honey brown hair was a rat's nest and her eyes red from staying up until 4 am rewatching all the Harry Potter movies. She could spot the drool that streaked across her face. Walking over to her shower, Laura turned on the water and while waiting for it to heat up, undressed. After her 10 minute shower, she quickly dried herself off and towel dried her hair. 'It's too late for makeup', she thought, and ran to her closet to look for something to wear. She settled on a light blue button up with her cleanest jeans. After about 2 minutes, she gave up on trying to brush her hair and exited her bedroom. She grabbed the first food item in sight, deemed it breakfast and headed off to the café where she would meet up with Danny. Being only two blocks away from the apartment, she made it in 10 minutes with 3 to spare. Laura went up to the counter to order but got distracted, thinking she saw Danny.
"Ahem?"
Laura whipped around and looked back at the barista who clearly didn't want to be here.
"You gonna order something, sweetheart? Cause I don't have all day" the barista - no, Carmen, Laura thought while looking at her name tag- rasped out.
"Uh, yeah! S-sorry" Laura stuttered.
"Well, what'll it be cupcake?"
"Caramel hot chocolate please!"
Carmen rolled her eyes and wrote down the order, returning a minute later with her beverage.
"Thanks Carmen."
The barista furrowed her perfect brow in confusion before looking at her name tag. Sighing, she dragged her eyes back up to Laura's and said,"The name is Carmilla, not Carmen", she spat." My imbecelic co-worker messed it up." She said the last part a bit louder and you saw a small red-headed quirk up at that. Turning back to you, she said,"Whatever, here you go, cutie. That'll be $2.37."
Laura fumbled for the money and basically shoved it into her chest before scrambling away with her drink. She sat down in a booth near the front of the café so she could see Danny when she arrived. Sitting down, she looked back over her shoulder, getting a better look at Carme- no, Carmilla, she reminded herself. Everything about her drew Laura in for some reason. Her hair was the color of melted chocolate, falling into her beautifully sculpted face. Laura was positive that the Greek gods made that jaw themselves. Her high cheekbones, sharper than a knife, lips the color of fresh blood contrasting with her alabaster skin, an angled nose to pair with it, and her eyes, 'oh her eyes,' Laura thought,'I can get lost in them for hours...', a deep brown so dark, almost black. Laura's thoughts were interrupted when those soulful eyes met hers and winked, and she sauntered off with a smirk. Laura could feel the heat from her face, confident it is as red as Danny's hair. Whipping around, she was met with the same hair she was just thinking about.
"Danny!"she exclaimed in embarrassment from being caught staring at the beautiful,'but rude' she remembered, stranger.
The tall red-headed chuckled "Hey Hollis."
"Sorry I was late," she said while seating herself," I got caught up in traffic."
"Um, don't you live like, a mile away from here?"
"Well yeah," she huffed," but there's still traffic."
"So!" She exhaled, " let's get to buisness. I've been doing some research and I think I found you a roommate!"
Laura looked up from her drink at this. "Really?because you know I can't just have anyone, Danny."
"Yeah, I know. She's a friend from college." Laura couldn't really tell but she thought she heard Danny mutter something under her breath that sounded something like if you can really call her that. "She was in one of my English classes in the second semester, so you wouldn't have known her from there."she continued,"I know that she's in need of a place and I thought that it could be a great opportunity for her. Actually, she works here!" As she said this, Laura started to worry, 'please don't be the hot barista, please don't let it be the hot barista, please don't let i-' her inner monologue was cut short by Danny looking behind her and waving someone over. Laura's stomach sank as she heard Danny's next words, "Laura, I'd like you to meet Carmilla!"
As she turned around she was met with the smirk and smooth voice that will pleasantly haunt her dreams.
Carmilla chuckled, "I'm Carmilla, your new roommate sweetheart."
'I'm doomed'.
