elliot knew more than to call oliver this late at night- she knew that oliver would kick her ass the next time they met up but she didn't care.
dialing up oliver's number on her phone, elliot rolled over on her side, waiting for oliver to answer.

"hello?" answered oliver's low and groggy voice, elliot felt her cheeks warm up.
"o-oh, hey oli, it's elliot, did, I, uh, disturb you?" mumbled elliot, playing with the end of her pillow.
"not really," oliver answered, "I was just reading the book you recommended the other day."
elliot's eyes brightened up, "r-really? which one?" she laughed, "I recommended a lot."
she heard oliver lightly chuckle, "the thing about jellyfish, that's what I'm reading."
"the main character is suzy right?" asked elliot, she heard oliver hum in response, "I think you'll like that. there's logic and sentimental stuff in there."
"well, I'm liking it so far, it's pretty interesting."
"glad you like it." she breathed out.
"hey," said oliver, "why'd you call me in the middle of the night?"
"oh!" blushed elliot, "I-uh, have a hard time falling asleep, and I wanted someone to talk too."
there was a short silence, elliot was worried; oh no. he hates me, he hates me, what do I do, oh no..
"well, that's, cut- interesting," came out oliver's reply, "we can talk until you fall asleep, today's a friday anyway."
elliot unconciously smiled, "t-thanks oliver."
"no problem."
"hey! did you listen to the musical I sent you earlier?" elliot asked excitedly, oliver sighed, "the plot and overall songs where too lighthearted for me. too, happy."
elliot pouted, "all you listen to is emo music."
"excuse you madam sunshine but fall out boy is not emo."
elliot rolled her eyes, "either way, you need some happiness in your life."
"well, I'm friends with you."
elliot felt her entire face go warm, she buried her face into her pillow and bit her lower lip.
"huh? elli? elliot? are you still there?"
"o-oh yeah!" elliot stammered, "u-umm, are you going to the library tomorrow?"
she heard oliver sigh, "sorry dude, I have my part-time job tomorrow."
"that's too bad," elliot mumbled, "hey! I can go to your part-time job and visit you!"
oliver let out a soft laugh, "do you even know where I work?"
elliot hummed in response, "no, where is it?"
oliver laughed again, "I work at my aunt's cafe, it's about a block away from the library, I'll send you directions by text."
elliot smiled, "alright! thanks oliver!"
"no problem, again."
elliot let out a childish giggle.
the two conversed for what seemed like the rest of the night. the two had to keep their laughter to a minimum as it was 2 am and they didn't want the other people in their household to wake up.
at around 4 am, elliot seemed drowsy, and her words came out as whispers or slurs. finally, after the last question about butterflies, oliver heard elliot's light snores from the other end of the phone.
oliver smiled and felt his face warm a bit, elliot was adorable.
"goodnight elli." said oliver softly, elliot mumbled something incoherent, but oliver assumed it was a goodnight.
"sweet dreams." oliver said before ending the call.
