Ten years before
Blood. So much blood. I'm laying in it. My parents blood.
As I stare into my mother's lifeless eyes, I can't help but cry. Everyone's gone now. Everyone except me.
Why? Why am I still alive? Does the moon goddess not want me to die with my pack? To not be honorable and die for my people?
You are strong, Amber. You can become stronger. Don't give up, my gorgeous baby, for the Moon Goddess will guide you.
She has a plan for you. Just listen. And know that I love you, Ammie. Me and your father love you so much. Be strong.
My mothers last words. Her dying words. Be strong.
I push myself up, and walk out of the pack house. Be strong.
I walk down into the courtyard, to see bodies littering the floor. My pack, all dead. All of their lives taken, for me, to protect me, the great female shifter. Be strong.
I keep moving, past ripped bodies, until I reach the Northern border, where I stop, turn around, and utter the last words, to my pack, my friends, and my family.
"I'm sorry. I will be strong. I promise, mum. Take care of dad. I love you."
With those last words, I turn back around, facing the forest. I will go to the neighbouring pack, see if they will let me rest, and then I must move, must get away from here.
Goodbye. One foot in front of the other. Goodbye.
