It felt as if it were just the two of us in that moment, the magician and I. If this kid had a talent beyond magic tricks, it had to be laying down awkward tension.
He took off the ring he had previously gotten from the tourist.
"Palms together." He mumbled, which I took as an instruction, and so I did just that.
"Slowly pull them apart..." His awkward factor refused to decrease any, but nevertheless I followed his instruction until he told me to "Stop"
The kid then placed the ring on the back of my left hand, the one that was raised up.
His finger gently pressed down on the wedding band, it felt cool and smooth on my skin. I even remember its colours, rose gold entwined with platinum.
Then he whispered, "Don't blink."
